Think about this: why would the line judge mark the ball more than a half yard past where the guy landed. I mean, wouldn't the most likely mark be where he seemed to hit the ground directly after hitting his own guy? Like, what got in his head to give a clear first down when all the evidence pointed to it being short???

No - he is on the line watching for the ball. I will give you a pass for having Charlie Strong brain.

It doesn't need to be over the line. He need to get to the line which he did. If for example the first down marker is at your opponent 15, you do not need to get to the 14 to get the first down. Getting to the 15 is good enough.

The people who are paid to make that decision disagreed. I know it sucks, but it is what it is. I honestly don't know if he made it, but I just as certainly don't know that he didn't.

That's what I saw. UM did get screwed a few other times. But all of this other stuff about the pick 6, fumble on the 1 and the rest. That's called "your QB isn't very good and he coughed it up a few times". Nothing fluky or lucky about it. That's just football and not turning it over is a pretty important part of the game.
