Correct, they have cap holds so they could still build a roster. Right now the 2020-2021 Salary Cap looks to be $125M but we don't know for sure. But the Lakers also have that Dead Cap of $5 from Deng so even if the Salary Cap is at $125M it would be really tight with a max contract of Giannis and not likely at all.

Lebron is the only guy on the books right now for a player option. $41M
AD would be getting I think 5 years $200M - so $40M/year
As far as what the Lakers could offer Giannis...I'm not sure. Probably around $40M a year or little less. Not sure what the Lakers could offer him at this point.

At this point, it's not very realistic at all especially with the Salary Cap dropping. Staying with the Bucks, going to the Heat or Mavs makes more sense.

Next season is 2020-21. Unless I misread something, Giannis wouldn't be available for next season. But he will be a free agent after next season, so they'd be looking to sign him for 2021-22.

There's no way that the Lakers could clear the cap space to get him for 2020-21. But they might be able to for 2021-22.

They are still a long way from that.
That is why the sentence started with "But if" not "When".

We are also still a lonf way from Giannis parting ways with the Bucks.

But everyone is thinking he will be a nice guy and let them know if he is leaving, resulting in a trade before the deadline so that the Bucks get something in return.

Right but even 21-22 would be difficult with Lebron $41M and AD $40M...it all depends on the cap. Would be tight either way.

Yeah, that's always a possibility. If I'm the Bucks, I'm sitting down with him and asking him directly and reacting accordingly.

If that happens, then the Lakers (and a few other teams) would have to hope that it's not a sign and trade or that he chooses not to re-sign.

No way the Lakers can trade for him. They couldn't even put together a decent package of draft picks to get him. lol

True. The 2021-22 cap will be determined by how much teams lose this season and how much they can make up next season and we won't know that for awhile.

It was going to be tight if they got Kawhi and obviously they'd go deep into the luxury tax. But they've shown that they will do that for titles.

Another thing to is, maybe Lebron retires after that one year with Giannis...that would free up $40 million.

I mean, he can't keep doing this until he starts collecting social security...can he?

Anyone else think the Bucks shouldn't have let Brogdon walk away?

I don’t know.

How many times did I say that?

I even doubled and tripled down when the Bucks were winning like 90% of their regular season games.

They really missed him.

Not sure how many times you said that. For the Bucks it was an abrupt end to what was supposed to be a special season. It'll be interesting to see what off season moves they make.

It won’t of course, until he signs a long term deal to stay.
I believe that he will but then the owner must step up and surround him with better talent.

We shall see.

I believe it is truly up in the air right now.

And like I said earlier, it would be a mistake for Giannis to sign that extension this summer. Even if he is 100% sure he wants to stay.

As long as he is playing at this level he won't accept anything less imo. If he starts to regress I could see him taking a "team friendly" salary, in a sense. He isn't slowing down yet but who knows in 2 years.

Yep he needs to see what the GM and Bud do in the offseason to help this team...wait a year.
