247 has released a ranking of everyone's roster based on recruiting rankings. Quite honestly,
I'm shocked no one has released this kind of thing before because it's often discussed. It shows the full scope of a team's roster vs. just a year or two snapshot based on recruiting rankings:

2017 College Football Team Talent Composite

It goes back to 2015, here's the ranks every year since 2015....with the 2017 ranking being the team's current roster ranking:

Interesting to note: Alabama has 18 five star players on their roster. The next closest team is Ohio State with 7.....

Actually Ohio St is 5th behind Georgia, Florida and USC with 11, 10 and 8 and just ahead of Clemson and UCLA which both have 6, they do however have the most 4 stars.

I hate these lists. They are just dumb. I believe LSU has like 10 scholarship OL or something crazy like that after they lost a 6 kids in the offseason. Hard to claim they have top 6 talent, when they will struggle to fill a 2 deep on the OL. People need to look at more than the accumulation of stars

Of course, but it's a good illustration as a look at the overall roster.

When it comes to looking at rosters, Alabama is as they've been for the last five years or so: Deeper than anyone else with talent.

And I'll wager my left nut only 2 of them (or less) end up in this year's CFP Playoff.

Soooo....., what does this all really mean other than nothing?

Interesting to see the defending National Champs aren't even listed. :pound:

Top 25 CFB teams with most NFL talent in 2017: Nos. 1-5

4. Washington

Players to watch: OT Trey Adams, LB Keishawn Bierria, QB Jake Browning, RB Lavon Coleman, NT Greg Gaines, RB Myles Gaskin, WR Dante Pettis, S Taylor Rapp, DT Vita Vea, LB Azeem Victor

The outlook: The secondary will need to reload after sending three second-round defensive backs to the NFL. The defense has pro talent on the first and second levels with DT Vita Vea leading the pack. The big man is a powerful run stuffer who has impressive range. LB Keishawn Bierria is a little undersized for the middle, but he's a tough playmaker, and Azeem Victor could hear his name called on Day 2 (Rounds 2-3) next spring. Offensively, Jake Browning will get national attention, but Trey Adams and Dante Pettis are the best players on that side of the ball.

Clemson is listed. No team has won a title, since the BCS period without having a 4 year average class in the top 10. Rankings don't matter that much on an individual level, but they mean a lot in the aggregate

False.

Auburn 2010

2009 - 23
2008 - 21
2007 - 9
2006 - 11

Pretty amazing what a single player can do for a team when he is behind center.

Pretty sure Oklahoma in 2000 would be even worse, but the composite doesn't go back that far. Damn sure any Sooner fan would back that up as they were supposedly undertalented, undermanned, and outclassed in a number of games that year; yet won 'em all.

I think the stat is without have a top 10 class in any of the 4 years prior, not average. We all now Auburn can't recruit and needs other teams seconds to win. Fucking ambulance chasers they are.

"since the BCS period without having a 4 year average class in the top 10"

No need to think. Just read.

What I said though is that I think it's worded wrong, not that you read it wrong.

I think the stat says 'without a Top 10 Class in any of the 4 years Prior'

Set in stone I guess.

Bama, Ohio State, Georgia, USC, Michigan, Florida State, LSU, Oklahoma, Auburn, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Texas, Tennessee, Clemson, Texas A&M, or Florida will win the natty this year.

Penn State, Washington, Wisconsin, Miami, Stanford, and Oklahoma State may as well not even try.

Just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it never will. It just hasn't happened yet. Haha, but sure, Nebraska might as well just mail it in :L

That still can put them in the top 10.
2010 class enrolled was available.

So 6, 23, 21, and 9. There needed to be 10 schools that did better. Just think 4 straight classes ranked 11th will likely get you in top 10 over that period nationally. It's not an average of their classes, it's where their average fits in nationally. I could have described that better.

Only caveat is it could have been 5 years. I remember reading this about the Oregon/Auburn B.C. game. Oregon was the 1st since VT to make it to the NC game, that didn't meet the criteria.

I ran the rankings. I am off, but not by much. Auburn finished with an average class ranking of 14, which came out to the 11th best 5 year recruiting ranking preceding their national championship.
