I get some guys just really want the security but the fact that Matthews set his deal to maximize earning potential to sign a second massive deal and literally not one other young star to date has done likewise is just so fucking Leafy.

/not to mention the fact the pandemic started almost immediately afterward making it so his cap hit never took up a smaller % of the team cap.

Kane for all his flaws is a good hockey player. Really good. But Virtanen? He just kinda sucks. I don't get it.

No denying that Evander is a good hockey player, but how long can he keep his nose clean? As for Virtanen, yeah I don't get it either, he's basically Zack Kassian with maybe a little better scoring touch.

Agreed all around. At least with Kane there is some reward to go with the obvious risk of dumbfuckery. With Virtanen I just don't see the upside.
