Considering Miller is passing so much more this year, I would like to know how many of his rushing yards are the result of him taking off due to coverage vs designed zone read plays.
I don't know of a way to determine that.
384 yards on 75 carries is over 5 yards per......
Much better bucksfan. Far more informative and factual than "he only threw it 20 times last year"
Another interesting stat is that he and Martinez have the same # of attempts this year with Martinez having a better completion percentage and only one INT as opposed to Miller's three.
Why do you suppose Miller is throwing the ball so much more this year?
Also without his rushing yds, Ohio St's rushing game would be (for all practical purposes) non existent.
Miller 90 for 655
Hall AND Hyde combined 75 for 384
Are there some O'line woes?
Fair enough. Miller is a good zone read QB.
He only hands it off when there is a sure thing there.
The fact that he has more attempts than those two combined hints that there is nothing available in the interior line more often then not.
Hyde is a decent back, but isn't overtly speedy nor tough to bring down, Hall is a better back with a bit more shake and has the wheels to break long runs but has been plagued by injuries since this summer and now has a partial PCL tear rendering him out indefinitely...
Our best runner is Miller unfortunately, which leads to him getting banged up a lot more then I'd like...
As far as his throwing more, last year Fickell tried to stick with the ole Tressel ball game plan but lacked the personnel to run it and seemed afraid to air it out... we only really started throwing a bit more later in the season when Posey returned, and even then it was rarely more than 15 attempts per game...
This year, Urban is running a lot more quick outs and bubble screens that have somewhat inflated the passing numbers but is also calling a lot more passing plays in general compared to his predecessor...
our o-line has been decent, not great, but not terrible... I thought they did a decent job against MSU that was supposed to have one of the better D-Lines in the big ten...
The fact that Miller's thrown the ball so much this year hints there's been little available on the interior line more often than not.
