As long as they install a real President of Basketball Operations, that won't matter (and might be only temporary anyway).

I expect that as Governor, Jeanie will continue to run the business side and represent the Lakers when it comes to dealing with the NBA. My guess is that Pelinka will be under some scrutiny on the basketball side. He hasn't been terrible...but he hasn't been great either.

Buss family is selling the majority stake in the Lakers to Mark Walter (Dodgers).

Supposedly Jeanie will continue as Governor, but IMO this bodes well for the future of the franchise.

Another positive surprise for Lakers fans!
I just saw this and I agree.

Bob Meyers to become his boss as President of Basketball Operations?

Rui may be safe as a Laker now, lol. Build on that Shohei/Yamamoto fan base.

I would love the Meyers hire....

He left GS but still young enough to return and do a bang up job.

Jimmy Buss gonna be the town drunk in Santa Monica when he gets his share of the sale.

Wait, he already is. Never mind.

Meyers is also just 50. He has something left in the tank for sure.

Honestly, I was surprised when he left the Warriors.

Oh hell yeah!

No more penny pinching mom and pop shop stuff from the Lakers. The story of the 2010s was basically free agent after free agent declining the Lakers because they spent so little on organizational amenities like health and science training staff, analytics, developmental coaching, travel, and so much more. Basically a decade behind others teams, even those with less money. Buss Family should be kissing Lebron's feet every day because if he never decided the LA market was better for his off the court businesses, we'd be in franchise hell the way this franchise has been run with the Buss kids.

Walter spares no expense with the Dodgers, no excuse to not have the best of the best now. And while the NBA does have a salary cap so we can't just go out and buy every good player, at least this means we shouldn't be letting good players like Alex Caruso walk because we're scared to dip into the luxury tax

MLB has no luxury tax so it’s not going to matter. Compete and don’t be stupid, that’s how you win in today’s climate.

lol

Yes, it will matter. Not necessarily in the sense of what they can spend on contracts other than being more willing to go into the luxury tax to keep key players.

Where it will matter most is, as @wildturkey pointed out, the areas in the FO and support staff where they have fallen behind.

I hope they break the bank for Meyers.

I think he'd be a good get. Based on what has been done with the Dodgers...I expect that he'll get competent people and let them do their jobs. As @shopson67 pointed out...a true President of Basketball Operations would be a great start. Give Pelinka someone to answer to other than himself. lol

I’d be concerned that Meyers got such a huge break with Curry’s injury his second season. Without that they never could have got KD and of course we know that trade is now not allowed. Something about the dude to me, but I know he is good. The Wiseman thing is always going to be there though.
