I see this as camp fodder with a chance. He is just a stupid kid with abilities. Let's see if he makes it outta camp, which I assume he won't. But if he does he has to be on a super short leash and coach needs to have that talk. Even get close to the line and your gone.
It's kind of shocking that no team drafted him or at worst signed him within an hour of the draft ending. Tells you that they all did their homework and that there is probably some evidence that is going against him either legally or in "Goodell's Court". Talent rules all which may explain why Mike Green went in round 2 and Bond wasn't drafted. I wouldn't be surprised if teams, and probably the Cowboys, are discussing it signing him right now. Rookie camps are early May and OTAs are Mid-May. He'll be signed before Mid May for sure if I had to guess, UNLESS the case takes a bad turn for him.

That's fine. Obviously every single NFL team thinks he is or he would have been drafted (the dead money from cutting our 7th rounder Justin Rogers last year was $21K and like $80K over 2 years which is nothing) or at worst signed in the first 5 minutes of the UFDA period and so do I. Risks aren't just in the form of money. They are reputation based as well and team/locker room based in the case of Sanders as we saw also. I wouldn't be surprised if the Cowboys signed him as it is their culture to do so and I'd say most fans will absolutely agree with you and put skill ahead of the off the field issues and character issues every single time. Case in point, the guy who loved your post is the same one spouting off the teams BS about "character first" like a parrot for the last couple of months. :L
I'm surprised Mike Green isn't still available then.

This is like the 3rd time over the yeaŕs where you've felt the need to take some kinda power control over my OPINIONS and posting style...as if you are somebody on this site. You bait and you show your ass...must be why you see it so well in others.

as always, you could avoid my posts and apparently who's post I like too. LOL...BUT WHERE IS THE FUN IN THAT.

from style points to the higher authority and mr. wizard. You always cry.

Yeah, ok. That really sounds anything at all like me. Funny how you literally just repeat exactly what I say like a week later in a bizarre whataboutism attempt. Everyone else just wants to talk football. You just want conflict. Check the NFL board too

I think your thin skin shows through. Nice try though and good to see you keep count. I guess it means a lot to you.

That’s the point. He was a top 20 talent. Bond isn’t. Green was also a better prospect than the BC edge that we took (still working on the spelling) yet we took our guy and everyone else passed on Green in the first and most teams in the second and for all we know some took him off their board completely. Without his allegations there is zero chance he is there at the end of the second round.

Regardless I’m not telling you to not want a guy with character concerns in general and Bond specifically, I’m saying I personally would not sign Bond right now. I bet there is at least one guy in every single NFL front office that agrees with you and is pounding the table for him. Only a matter of time before someone does it unless, like I said, it takes a bad turn for him.

Bond was projected as a 1st round pick, before the story broke. Had the story broke on April 25th he's probably not available right now.

Like many teams, we won't have a workhorse RB but if we nailed our 5th rounder he and Williams may team up to be a decent combo. Not great, but maybe league average and that is a lot better than expected. Once they buried Zeke our run game was fine. The last 7 games of the year Rico rushed for 677 yards. That's cherry picking, of course, but it's also 1,644 yards over 17 games. That coincided with Martin's injury as well, because sadly once he went down our OL got better. Yet, that was still with a not very good OL.

This year's OL vs last year's should see a significant improvement. Tyler pretty much the same or possibly a little better. Beebe year 2 should be better. Steele played much better at the end of the year last year, so should be better. Booker vs Martin/Hoffman should be a shit ton better, Guyton year 2 should take a huge leap forward or will be replaced. Either way we should be much better there as well. So, I have little doubt our run game will be much improved. Hopefully that will lead to not only 8 in the box, but being able to successfully run against 8 in the box which will help our passing game (I believe Schoitty will use PAP much better than dopey McCarthy) as will Dak being back because regardless of what you think of Dak, he is much better than Cooper Rush and having a healthy Ferguson (see 2023) will IMO as well. So hopefully we overcome our #2 AND #3 WR issue. Week 1 isn't yet here, so let's see what the depth chart looks like when we get there.

Regardless, this isn't a SB winning team and sure as heck wasn't a couple of months ago, so who cares if we have a couple of holes this year. The goal shouldn't be fill holes it should be build towards a SB. Let's fill them all by week 1 of 2026 when we are hopefully in a better position to compete for a SB. I think this was a positive offseason in that long term goal. It was NOT a successful offseason in getting there this year, but no one objective thought it would be unless we opened the purse in free agency and we did not.
I get ya about our line being better because of all the things you mentioned. Not to sour the optimism because like you said we ain't winning shit this year but ARE working for a future, Philly got better on their D front. So that needs to be taken into account as well.

I am excited to see how it plays out.

Or he gets popped in Frisco DWI.

After watching the video of him spitting on the DB I wouldn't put anything passed him as that is abhorrent behavior.

Come on. You are telling me that a month ago you thought Bond was a first rounder?

Seriously dude, you have to be kidding with this. Athlon is the Fisher site right? You Googled it and the only hit you got was a Fisher site and the article doesn't even mention him being a first rounder. It's click bait. I don't remember how much you follow College Football or the draft process but he was absolutely not seen as a first rounder in early April before this story broke. That might have been referring to when he transferred from Alabama to Texas and you got click baited by the headline, because he wasn't even close to the top WR prospect from an NFL perspective on his own team and Golden wasn't even a unanimous 1st round prospect although he was generally considered one. Mocks are meaningless, but there are mocks posted all over the place on the internet and here. You should be able to find 50 that had him in the first round. Heck, he's only mentioned in this thread once and that's because Steve Smith listed him #9.

Brugler doesn't adjust for these things as can be seen by his top 10 ranking for Mike Green. He had Bond #88 which is the bottom half of round 3. He also talks about what he was expected to be a year ago when he transferred from Alabama to Texas.

Overview

A one-year starter at Texas, Bond was an inside-outside wide receiver in head coach Steve Sarkisian’s RPO pro-style spread offense and was used across the formation (76.8 percent of snaps wide, 22.6 percent slot). He teased playmaking talent in his two seasons at Alabama, including making the catch on Jalen Milroe’s fourth-down game-winner against Auburn). He was expected to become Texas’ No. 1 target after transferring for the 2024 season, but Bond’s ankle injury and inconsistent chemistry within the offense hampered him, especially over the second half of the season.
A former track star, Bond is a loose, twitchy athlete with big-time speed, which makes him a threat to make a house call every time he touches the ball. Aside from staying healthy, he needs to improve the discipline and rhythm of his routes and break bad habits at the catch point, although he might never have the play strength to win contested targets. Overall, Bond has unquestioned athletic talent and upside, but he will need to prove to be more reliable within the structure of an offense for an NFL coaching staff to trust him. There is a boom-or-bust element to his projection, but the “boom” will be pretty appealing on Day 2.

The Cowboys are open about wanting to sign a veteran WR. If they do that, I think this season could really swing to the positive on the backs of two player....Mazi Smith and Tyler Guyton. If those two come into camp ready to role and can play up to their potential, a wild card is definitely possible. If Mazi can't make a jump and Guyton lays a duck egg again at LT, we are in a bind. They need their #1 picks to play up to their draft stock. A return to form by Jake Ferguson wouldn't hurt either

Well Mazi was supposed to be NFL ready and is 0-2 with two really really bad seasons that no team but us would have still had him starting by the end of. Guyton wasn't seen as NFL ready and is only 0-1 so I guess he has the better odds to improve. Plus Guyton was so bad he almost has to be better. Mazi has been a horrible disappointment so far, but played better than Guyton, even if not by much. Plus I am a huge believer in our OC with his OL background along with the OL coach being a monster improvement over last years OL coaches. But, both should be better. I mean, they can't be worse than awful can they? Hopefully both hit the weight room because we sure as heck didn't get the strong agile player in Mazi we were supposed to and from what you hear Guyton didn't have much desire to work hard. Perhaps getting rid of McCarthy will do wonders for our overall work ethic.
