The Sporting News mock had Dallas trading up with JAX to draft Jeanty. Cost um 12 44 and 170 something.
No way in Hell I would do that. They could take Hampton at 12 or a kid like Judkins at 44, net a real good RB and another player. If i moved up, it would be to put Mason Graham on the DL beside Micah, not trade up for a RB in a deep RB class. There will be decent runners left in the 5th round if need be

When teams talk about taking the best available, they also are looking at among the 4 or 5 who is the best available and fits their needs. in the case of the Cowboys in this draft it is recognized league-wide the Cowboys, in order of need, are needing WR, RB, DL. Edge, IOL, CB.

WR - the Cowboys have Lamb. they have no one on the other side of the lineup or in the slot to take the press coverage off of him.

RB - the Cowboys have Javonte Williams, Males Sanders, Deuce Vaughn & Malik Davis and none of them can be considered a #1 workhorse RB and none will be with the team in 2026. we need to draft our future RB.

DL - we have Odighizuwa, Thomas, Fowler & Parsons but we need to replace Mazi Smith and bring in DL & Edge.

IOL - later in the draft

CB later

DT is at the top of my wish list. They need a difference maker at DT. I prefer somebody stout against the run and can rush the passer. Get somebody that cares about football in the middle. Mazi plays with zero intensity
I am torn on a guy like Graham because he is Michigan guy. I can't shake it.

I agree with that, but not at 12. Any other round, yes. It Patrick Mahomes from Texas Tech is there at 12, and McClay says this kid will be a HOF QB IMO, you take him, whether you have Dak or not, even if your starting RB is a 38 year old Zeke and Jeanty is on the board. If you're the Eagles, woth two stud starting DT's, and Aaron Donald is there, and Will believes it, you take Donald. Any other round, im with you 100%

and if at 12 you have McMillian, Hampton and a couple of top DL's who do you take as the most important

Depends how you have them rated. For all we know the team might have McMillan a top 5 player in the entire draft, or perhaps not even as a first rounder at all. You can't just grab the top guy at a position of need when he may not be ranked anywhere near the top players on your board. That's the surest way to regretting your draft. You never pass on a guy you think will be a great player and who is head and shoulders over other guys on your board regardless of position. You aren't drafting for this September. You are drafting for the next 10 years.

It really depends, and i say that because most people i have heard that I think know something about scouting think there are 10-12 legit 1st round players in this draft. Example...I heard Dane Brugler say the other day that if Brian Thomas were in this years draft(he went 23rd overall), he would have had Thomas ranked ahead of any reciever in this draft(looking at Hunter as a corner). So if there is a guy we feel like was one of our top 5-6 players in the entire draft, that fell to 12, and we decide to go WR, even thinking that reciever is the best in this draft but would have gone at the bottom of the 1st last year, im taking the other guy. I dont care where he plays. If we dont have a need at, say, Center, which we don't, and Travis Fredrick is there, im taking Fred and moving Beebe to RG. All good. 1st round i wamt the best shot atba star and lesst shot at a bust. After round 1, need shopping is fine by me. Now...if the best player on our board is a need like DT, DE, RB, CB...grand slam

i'm looking at this hopefully scientifically. right now, at DE we have Parsons (Edge), Fowler, Turmer, Kneeland and Williams. at DT we have Odighizuwa. Thomas, Rogers and Smith. I'm looking at Farmer, Norman-Lott, Ashton Gillotte, Robinson & Stackhouse as being available in the middle rounds and i probably missed several. they are not #1 starters, but they are rated as probably good to very good backups with a possiblr future starters.

personally if 1 or 2 players are gone before 12 comes up i strongly support moving down maybe to something like 18 (Seattle) with maybe a 3rg and 4th. and then something if the 1 or 2 players i am specifically targeting there i would look to move down to around 20-22 with another 3rd and maybe a 2025 or 2026 5th

I think if you can move down for any kind of value, it's a great idea. And I also think if you can package some of the 6 day 3 picks we have to move back into the back half of day 2, that would be great
Rounds 2-4 will be stocked with solid prospects
I agree on NT. I'll tell you a sleeper i like who shows as not drafted in a lot of mocks, but i definitely think will go late...Desmond Watson, DT, Florida. 6'5", 449 pounds. If nothing else, you could line him up over the Eagles center and put an end to that rush push bullcrap lol

I just don't see this team drafting DL day 1 or day 2 without a trade back. Since some of you continue to post Mazi' replacement as a top team priority, I'll continue to voice the opinion this team does not view AT THIS point and time Mazi as problem one, two, or even third on the list of addressing with a high end draft pick.

You are probably right. I think at least in round one they go either CB or WR. Top candidates are probably Golden,TMac,Johnson and Barron. I would be surprised if they don't draft one of these four.

Another guy I am watching for the trenches is Tyler Booker. He had a bad combine. Maybe he falls to 44. I don't really put as much weight into 40 times for interior offensive lineman. He routinely mauled everybody that got in his way. Hoffman concerns me a little at RG. I just like the bigger lineman at guard

this is exactly how I see pick 12 going should we stay at 12.

CB is a darn near a crises

Agreed! 100%. I dont care about 40 times for right guards and nose tackles. I bet Ted Washington ran a 6 flat lol. Booker was a dominant run blocker. Would love to add him
