People always seem to forget this has been the case for over a decade... Offense is notorious for starting slow every game

^ guaranteed if one time they started a drive with a hidden deep pattern it would work becuase NO ONE would ever expect it out of a Tomlin offense.

And they need to find another WR. If Pickens gets hurt or has a mistake that takes his head out of a game, they are SOL.

Glad they are finally getting the ball to Freiermuth, but it still seems to be a 3rd or 4th read most times which is why he doesn’t get a lot of love. The rest of the receivers just don’t get open and it makes 3rd & longs so much more stressful. They miss having a guy like Diontae Johnson that can create separation quicker

This WR corp is a joke. And really are they trying to sell us that Scotty Miller deserves to be on the roster vs the group on the PS? There is no way Quez Watkins is worse than him, if so they really need to inquire with teams like the Titans for Hopkins or Kirk.

It really is. Watching anyone block from the slot is hilariously bad.

Van Jefferson is virtually useless. Doesn't get open unless the DB has a 12yd cushion on him, and he can't block for shit.

I really don't understand why they think Roman Wilson would be any worse. The "hopping onto a moving train" belief is just wrong. Aside from Pickens, the WR group has what, 12-13 catches total in 4 games? That's being willfully dense to think this is sustainable.

We knew this was going to happen, the WR room was thin at best and letting DJ go was a huge mistake then and now…..no one is going to replace his numbers to take pressure off Pickens…..truly sad they didn’t see this coming

Agreed. But we also have to remember that DJ wanted out & he had a piss poor attitude. Shipping that cancer out wasn't a bad move.

Khan, Weidl, etc should have stressed WR2 more this past offseason.

Agree he wanted out, but they had no plan which as you said should have been a HUGE priority......I don't remember any talks of them trying work things out.....it was like he was gone instantly.....probably got ugly behind closed doors I guess.....Now the Davonte Adams rumors shall begin.....

That's just how things have gone with Tomlin & Co lately. When a player wants out, he gets his wish almost immediately. LeGarrette Blount, Melvin Ingram, Antonio Brown, etc etc.

It's odd they didn't have a better priority on replacing DJ. Maybe they have been spoiled with drafting WRs over the years. But it feels more like they just got caught with their pants down by hardballing FAs. Became pretty evident with how desperate they looked with trying to trade for Aiyuk in the 11th hour of the offseason. Which makes me even more fearful of this trade deadline... Everyone knows the Steelers are desperate for WR help, and they look willing to overpay.

Don't hate Adams here if the price is right. Not sure if we would need to cough up a 2? We gotta give our stud QB some weapons.

Steelers traded them a broken AB for a 3 and a 5. And then again got a 3rd from the Raiders for Martavis Bryant.

They're probably a little bit leery about getting fucked by us on a third straight WR trade. But still, go for it. I'd do it for a 3rd.

My main concern with trading for Adams is his cap hits on the tail end of his contract are gross.

They would need to be able to negotiate a new contract for him coming in before the trade is finalized.

You can't take him in with a $44 million and $45 million cap hit the next two seasons.

Hell no. Luckily they don't currently have a QB-tier contract on the books. But that's exactly what his current contract structure would do to them. And from what I recall, they don't have the space for it.

Not holding my breath on this one though. Appears to be a manufactured trade scenario where Adams wants to choose where he goes. And the Steelers aren't high on that list.
