Simple question, answers are very difficult.

If an OL player stinks against good competition, how does that player become better?

More practice? More experience? More workouts? More weight work?

Better attitude?? Better Coaching??

Or is that player just not good enough to play at the NFL level??

If he had what it takes to get to the NFL then he should at least be serviceable for a couple years if...

He has the right attitude.
He has the right coaching.
He spends adequate time working out. (Attitude)
He spends adequate time in the film room. With Coaches. (Both attitude and coaching)
Time practicing and gaining experience.

Or coaching/GM needs to draft better.
Combined with all the above.

God I miss Scar.
And Thuney.
And Mason.
And Solder.
And...

So we get a 3rd round pick for him and no Barmore this year as far as we know. Did the D just take a bit of a nose dive?
Barrmore is a huge loss if he's out for an extended period. He really came into his own last year without Judon. Would've been fun seeing them back healthy together. Gonzo back provides a glimmer of hope that the D will still be good. I liked Judon but it was time for him to go. Best case was we had him for another year. Hopefully the 3rd round pick will make an impact in 1 or 2 years.
The Oline thing is really pissing me off though. Who knows maybe they suprise us? One can hope.

We really don't know how well gonzo will perform. We didn't see enough of him last year and yeah, the old line is a big concern. This could be a long season

Wish they actually did this trade prior to this years Draft... Could have helped or are the Patriots just ripping the band aide off for this season and saying, "F it?"
The defense played well without him last year, plus Gonzo will be back.
So from a personnel viewpoint I think they have the manpower to maintain a strong defense, the question is can the current staff of coaches maintain the defense as a strength like Bill could.

Yes they did play well enough but will they continue to be the main players to actually score points? The offense needs to step up and actually do something, which I am not so sure they will.

Also - Milton over Maye perhaps?

Yeah, I kinda wondered if they would try to protect their 3rd pick investment so much that a more "dispensable" Milton might get more playing time and end up leapfrogging Maye?

I would think so since they basically picked him to the be the "next Brady". But from the very limited viewing i've seen it seems like Milton has been more agile than Maye during pre season

Undoubtedly. Milton is by far the better athlete.

It's that his throttle on that supercharged arm is either wide open or he's backfiring.
He needs serious tuning.

Which isn't a good thing for a QB... Hopefully everything gets figured out. However, OL could be an issue as well

Brissett, Maye or Milton.
OL will be the problem.

Right now I see (I really hope not...) Brissett gets hurt because of the shitty OL, Maye almost gets hurt, and they use Milton more and more because his speed agility and ability to scramble keeps him safer.

Yeah with this OL anyone under center is going to get wrecked

I’ve never heard about an OL who stinks ever get better to the point of being a usable nfl lineman … maybe a tweak here and there could make a good player a bit better, but you can’t make gold out of straw … and good OL are gold

I don’t think so. He did not play last year and was fading down the stretch the previous 2years. Barmore is a loss but the line plays as a team. The chain is only as strong as the weakest link. That does not make the line as strong as the strongest link

28. New England Patriots

The Patriots would rank even lower had not re-signed Mike Onwenu, who has been arguably their best offensive lineman, to play right tackle. While former Pittsburgh Steeler Chukwuma Okorafor is projected to start at left tackle, he has just two career snaps there.

New England can find itself further up on this list if its young guards — Cole Strange and Sidy Sow — show improvement in 2024.
