I'm not sure what you mean by "off load some salary".

Trading DIggs costs the Bills about $3 million more this season against the cap vs. keeping him on the team.

IOW, they could have payed him to play for the Bills all this season, and cut him at the end of the season for less than what they spent to trade him.

What they did was off load a RPIA.
Diggs would have cost the Bills $19.5M for the 2024 season. That the Bills wouldn't have accounted for all of the $19.5M this year wasn't really a factor. Teams can almost always push some of current year hit back. Moving the hit backwards or forwards doesn't increase or decrease the net cost. The Bills preferred $19.5M of current and/or future cap space + a future 2nd round pick to having Diggs for a year. The current cap is $250M and next year's cap might be $280M. A $3M difference in 2024 cap space isn't really a factor.

Seems pretty fake. McDermott doesn't say anything spicy ever.
Yes. It is absolutely 100% fake. It goes back to his controversial 9/11 comments...and yes...they were pretty "spicy"

Eagles resigned Avonte Maddox to a one year deal and extended Jordan Mailotta.

Bills signing La'el Collins to 1/$6.25M

Well that would explain why they dumped Diggs.

Collins is a fine addition for a 1 year prove it deal. If he can stay healthy he can be effective. It's a deep WR class anyway... finding a replacement for Diggs wont be 'easy' but this draft has plenty of talent at the position that will be worthy of a late 1st.

Dumping Diggs didn't create any cap space though ($31M in dead cap). He was dumped for purely Diggs reasons.

They must be creating space with another restructure, as Spotrac has them $4.2M (after their draft picks' slotted salaries) in Top 51 cap space with this signing not yet completed.

I was thinking more of 2025 cash savings by dumping him now and getting something back. I'd assume they'll have to restructure someone with the Collins signing which will push cap into 2025 where trading Diggs now allows that to be possible.

As for Diggs being cut, once Dorsey was fired the Bills started winning by not throwing to Diggs as much lol. So agreed with your point on "Diggs reasons" - and I'm sure once Dorsey was fired and it wasn't the Diggs show, he got all pissy making this trade that much more justifiable.

I still think it's a mistake for Houston.... now you're going to have Stroud trying to force the ball his way 24/7 which could hurt his development and the younger wideouts...

To be fair, Diggs started getting pissy after the previous season.

minny fans will tell you it stated well b4 then

It did. He plays good soldier early on, then he becomes a malcontent when things don't start going his way. It's probably a big reason why Houston decided to chop this down to one year. They won't have to deal with any kind of fall out and can make a clean break from him.

As much as I would love Daniels.....not happening. Telesco is a smart GM and he isn't trading what Washington would demand for the #2 pick.

But if you took a hit of acid, then waited about an hour, it would very much make sense!!!

You're probably right that the chances are slim for the Raiders to work a deal for Daniels, but he is meeting with them.

Granted, so are five other teams.

The QB frenzy is going to make this draft a crazy NFL event. The teams might set a record for QB's drafted early. The funniest part is that only one or two of those guys at most will pan out. An insane amount of skill players and defensive monsters might drop a long way in round one. Teams that don't need a QB are salivating at the prospect. Could picks 2, 3, 4 or 5 be in play for a trade? One of those will completely disrupt the draft order and create some pandemonium. Can't wait!
