He was due a league minimum salary of $1.17M, a signing bonus of $11.33M, and a workout bonus of $250K. Only 1 fifth of the signing bonus will count towards the 2025 cap. He has another $1.5M due, which is likely money earned from performance targets reached in 2024. I don't see how Barkley's 2025 cap figure can be reduced. If the signing bonus is increased then the cap figure will increase by 1 fifth of the increase. Fair play to the Eagles for paying a star who outperformed his contract, but obviously this is a risky way to do it.
Where is the risk that you’re seeing?

2026 and 2027. Rewarding a player for outperforming in 2024 is fine. Increasing pay for increased expectations in 2025 is fine. Any sort of increased guarantee beyond then is a risky choice. I'd rather reward him for now and review it again after 2025.

Not sure of the ins and outs of this deal or his previous deal but you are aware Barkley got hurt a lot in NY? Not the best run team lately but doubt they let him out the door simply because FO was dumb or too cheap to pay him.

He had an amazing season in 2024 for sure but will it not be an issue if he once again gets hurt a lot like he did in NY? Again, I don't know details of his deal. In addition, in no way saying should not have signed him so no need for another Yosemite Sam-like meltdown.

The Eagles model will have them paying for 2026 and 2027 a few years later. The Eagles will still be paying guys like Jason Peters and Jason Kelce this season.

There’s risk of injury for every player. It’s not like he’s CMC.

He's definitely not CMC as has really only missed significant time in a season once.....and after looking he misses less time than I thought he did.
A more legitimate concern is the position he plays. Elite RBs only have so many carries in them before they hit that wall. The Eagles are now committed to him through the next 4 seasons instead of the next 2.

The thing that I like best is the message that it sends to the locker room. If you outperform your contract, the Eagles will step up for you. Barkley outperformed his contract in every way. We can point to the 2,000 yard season and his exceptional play on the field but his biggest impact was felt as a leader in the locker room.

The Eagles have a ton of good players locked up for a long time.

Seahawks are releasing Tyler Lockett I see. He was a stellar receiver there for a long time, wonder who he’ll sign with now, I imagine he still has something left in the tank even though his productuon has dropped the last couple of years.

Maxx Crosby highest paid non qb after his extension. I think both he and the Raiders got sick of all the to the Lions crap.
Damn! That’s a lot of money. I’m gonna pivot to my team (cause I’m a selfish bastard like that). I don’t know about trading for Myles Garrett. It will cost a 1st and likely a 2nd or 3rd and then having to redo his deal to the tune of at least 35 million a year if not 37 million a year with at least 95 million guaranteed.

Eagles have young pass rush already.

I hope Lions sign Sweat from you and you don't trade for Garrett!

I like Sweat but I think whoever signs him may be in an overpay situation, my team included. He’s coming off a high profile playoffs and a Super Bowl with 2.5 sacks. He had a rough 2023 but a nice bounce back 2024.

Wouldn't be surprised if Myles would want to hit that $40 mil per mark.....and a lot more guaranteed as well. And he will eventually get it IMO. Maybe here.
