The problem with this theory is that with these new rules and such the fa market isn’t likely to ever look like it used to

Which was the point

And yes, another reason we can’t have nice things
Then you pivot to run it with Embiid/Maxey and use the cap space to sign some role players around them that fit. If the new CBA will do away with the 3 star model then the Sixers will be aligned with that.

Not only that but you’d only have some version of the mle to replace him

You’re at about 100m for 4 players

Reeves will count…I think it was 12.5 against the cap this year

Rui likely on the same range let’s call it 14.5 for round numbers

That puts you at 127m with 6 players use the big mle and you’re at 140m (round up) for 7

You’d need another 16m for all minimum contracts on the bench

Not even sure you’re not over the hard cap at that point

And that would including trading your first this year for a future first
46.9 Lebron
40.6 AD
4.6 Vanderbilt
1.7 Christie
93.8 guaranteed

12.2 Reaves (MLE level per Arenas provision) - 2.2 cap hold
15.0 Rui (best guess) - 18.7 cap hold
121.0

16.5 Beasley (non-guaranteed) - Bird rights available - negotiate down to $10-12M per?
10.3 Bamba (non-guaranteed) - Bird rights available - negotiate down to $5-7M per?
147.8

Other cap holds
38.7 Russell (negotiate down to $20-25M per?)
7.7 Walker
3.6 1st round #17 overall
2.0 Brown Jr
2.0 Schroder
1.9 Gabriel
Incomplete below 12 roster spots (980K per)

Even if the Lakers negotiate DLo, Beasley and Bamba down to the low end of the numbers I projected, Lakers are at approximately $162M for 10 players and 2 open spot cap holds, right at the luxury tax threshold for determining MLE or TPMLE (which would take one of the roster spot cap holds, and the 2nd likely their 2nd round pick #47 overall).

I still can’t believe the Lakers didn’t just keep Conley.

Yep, that was my preference. Might have had Alexander-Walker in the mix too (ended up with the Wolves) and could've saved a 2nd rounder (and the Jazz could've saved 2 2nds)?

Lakers went for supposed upside over diminishing vet moxie I guess...

Bad choice because the LeBron AD window is now. Additionally, a future with DLo isn’t going anywhere.

Yeah after DLo took that huge leap forward under Atkinson I thought he had a chance

But he’s never followed that up

Was it a huge leap though or was he the only option on a marginal team and therefore got a ton of shots. He averaged 21 on 18 shots in his best year in Brooklyn.

DLo isn't expected to lead the team, he's a 3rd or 4th option that can get his own shot and create. Trying to build a younger core behind Lebron and AD I guess.

My point is that’s a hedge. For me, once I sign LeBron, I’m fully committed to that window. The Conley move is consistent with that. The DLo move is just a hedge that really leads nowhere

Yeah a better fit than DLo. Better defender, better shooter. Not the scorer but we saw from the playoffs Conley would have added more.

Yes and no.

I agree with being fully committed to the Lebron/AD window and I think they are. But they're trying to do it with younger veteran players. They're looking to have a group of role players that they can sell to max level guys when Lebron and AD move on or that will have trade value if necessary.

Conley is a better player, but because of his age, would either be leaving as an FA so they get nothing or, if traded, would bring back less than D-Lo.

Personally, even though I like D-Lo, I'd have preferred Conley. But, it's not like having Conley instead of D-Lo wins the Denver series. It may have extended it a game or 2, but that's it.

Better shooter is debatable. Russell shot better during the regular season in 22/23 in all 3 categories. Conley did step up in the playoffs.

IMO, This sounds like he’s ready to go

And that’s what Portland should do

And trade Simon’s

Tear it down to the studs

I wish Simons was less of a story, then I wouldn't have to see autocorrect Simon's in all these posts lol.

That is a very tough sell when you have the best player in the history of your organization in place. It may be the right move, but I don't know that they can sell that. They need to do better building around him and max out basically.

Not really when you have a prospect as good as scoot staring you in the face

He's always back in forth. He seems confused. He always talks about legacy and being loyal but then he says he wants to win.
