teams like the clippers and celtics (and sixers) got screwed by the cap smoothing.

Frankly this is just another wild overreaction to kevin durant, which is unlikely to happen again.
Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think the Sixers fall in that group. I think they kept themselves below that apron last year. People around the team have talked about the Sixers having access to the MLE of 12 mil this off season.

Yep and move Memphis to the East where it belongs

...and the Wolves. New Orleans is further East, but closer regionally with the Texas teams (and the Wolves to the Bucks/Bulls/Pacers)

What if he opts out? Can they use the MLE while in limbo working on a Harden extension?

I believe that second apron also operates as a hard cap. But again,
Not 100% certain

I don't think it's a hard cap, but ultimately when all the facets are in place, teams over that second apron will have a lot of limitations. No exceptions, no buyout player signings, can't trade that 7th year future 1st, can't take more money back in a trade, etc. If you're over that apron for multiple seasons, your draft pick 7 years out automatically goes to the end of the round.

Most teams will use it as a hard cap to avoid the severe penalties though.

I still can’t believe the players agreed to those

Think about gs and the clippers and the amount of money they just cost players going forward

How many teams will regularly use the big ntpmle

Cause it’s not a lot in regular years

Again, another thing hurt by the smoothing

All about leveling the playing field. Not everyone has a cash machine like the Warriors and the LA teams. Pretty much kills off the 3 star build plan.

The players lack of leadership and foresight is astounding

I doubt they would change more than necessary, which is just moving one team East, but who knows

Do the math. Adding two teams to the West makes 17, only have to move one to make 16 in each. Then you go to 4 divisions of eight probably.

Memphis seems like an obvious choice

True. Does moving Memphis or Minny make more sense? Minny is closer to other East teams, but Memphis is further east and a bit segregated?

Memphis is significantly further east and is closer to far more East teams than Minny.

Probably have divisions like this, divisions hardly matter anyway:

Pacific: SEA, POR, GS, LAC, LAL, SAC, LV, PHX

Mountain? (not sure what to call this one): UTA, DEN, MIN, OKC, HOU, SA, DAL, NO

Midwest?: CHI, DET, CLE, IND, MEM, MIL, ATL, TOR

Atlantic: ORL, CHA, MIA, WAS, NY, BRK, BOS, PHI
