so yesterday Elon announced they were making it so that you had to have a twitter account to see tweets. This is because so many companies were taking up massive twitter server time scraping twitter for data.

I imagine reprogramming that is difficult and going to take some time- or they have not reprogrammed it yet and the scrapping is getting ridiculous. They said they had to fire up emergency servers to take up the load.
