They can go double TE sets with him and Pitts...like other teams do....

Yes they can. On 1st and 2nd down they can do that. But you arent running 2 TE sets when you are down by a lot. Or if you are behind the chains. And rarely on 3rd down. Fact is if things go right for them wont even get Smith on the field for much more than 50% of the plays. And that is probably a little heavy.

And then add in that Jonnu Smith's best season in his entire career he totaled 448 yards in which he played 70% of the snaps that year when the starter in Tenn.

I just dont think paying a guy to likely play less than 50% of your offensive snaps and catch at max about 400 yards worth of balls over the entire season is worth $10M. I just cant believe that a guy like Smith playing in a role that Atlanta ideally would have him play (behind Pitts) is statistically significant enough to justify the price considering that as a starter he wasn't even putting up big production numbers.

....of course maybe this is a sign that Atlanta knows something more about Pitts and his health/ability moving forward. He was fricking putrid last year (one of the worst players in the entire league at the TE position). So maybe this is a sign that they know he isnt healthy or they are already starting to give up on him.

If I had to choose a QB who’s been to a SB or a guy that’s never won a playoff game, I’ll take the SB. Not to mention the multiple championship game appearances on top of the Super Bowl.

Give me the proven winner 10 times out of 10.
