This is probably the one legit bad result of the Michigan lol. No one wants to play goal anymore. Everyone wants to do their dekes, (bro)

Goalie registration in the pcaha (lower mainland vancouver) is so low. Last year our association had 5 goalies for 6 house teams at the u15 level. And while the 2 rep teams still have 2 goalies per team, they were house calibre. We went to the league and asked for an exemption to share goalies amongst house rosters and were denied. This year 5 associations at u15 house level in the lower mainland have this shared goalie exemption. Its that bad/desperate everywhere now!

This season in u15 zone (province of bc AAA) there is a goalie on a team who is 2 years removed from playing house … and thats 2 covid years with virtually no games played in that time. And yes ,kids (like him) who are playing goal at levels above their skill are improving with exposure to great coaching. But the total pool of available athletes playing goal is so so small these days.

Teams have had to pilfer goalies from other associations. I know one goalie who was going to be playing u18 house and an association asked him to be their repA1 starting goalie. Waived his registration and gave his parents a transportation allowance lol

This situation has made associations reduce the registration fees for goalies. Associations have also budgeted higher dollars for buying goalie equipment for kids in the younger age groups that can be shared so they can incentivize parents who see the position as a money pit of equipment costs. Theyve also put all their allotment of development money into goalie camps at subsidized rates.

imo they should let goalies play for free, especially at age groups at u11 and below because what theyre currently doing isnt changing things.

For the record, I have no issue with the Michigan, you have to possess a high level of skill to score on that move. The bigger issue as far as Team Canada is concerned is at the other end of the ice, we don't seem to be able to develop goalies any more. Not even the former goalie factory known as Quebec is churning them out like in years past.
The move does take great skill and is exciting to watch, but there is a very specific set of circumstances where you can try it. The issue I saw with both attempts is Fantilli and Bedard both went behind the net with the play in mind when the better play might have been to go back to the points and get traffic. They had visions of Sportscenter in their heads and forgot fundamental hockey.

That's what I tell my players - if they are gonna try that shit they better score, and if they don't it had better be the only play you could make. Same with practice, you had better shown me mastery of the drill we are doing before you try it.

For the record, it's the same rules when one of my goalies goes for a two pad stack.

We have a boatload of donated gear and one practice a week that is goalies only. Bauer gave us a few bags of 8-10U sized full setups. It's huge for us as we have kids who want to try it and they can without having to find gear. They can come out, learn how to skate in all that gear and with a bunch of other goalies to help them. I have 18 goalies in my program from 8U to U19 Womens age and no has had to pay for their own gear unless they choose to.

It makes a huge difference. We started the season with one girls team goalie (we have U14 and U19 girls teams) and now we have 4 who can play depending on situation.

Lindros scored his 31 points in 21 games, by the way.

Czechia and Swiss are currently embroiled in a goalie duel.

CZE has 4 on 10 shots, SUI has 1 on 5.

Guys, I am starting to think that Germany is not going to be able to come back in this one.
