Hock and a 4th going out? That seems a lot for a 2 and a 3.

And it’d take a first or second to replace him.

I completely disagree.

It's rare to find a player like Kittle - 5th round draftee - who'll make a team better, but I also don't believe only 1st or 2nd round drafted TE's will be your only option. There exist many 1sts and 2nd round drafted TE's that haven't lived up to their draft slot, in my opinion.

Bottom line on that trade is that the Lions trade picking 97th overall- not figuring in 3rd round comp picks - to move up to what is currently 62nd overall in the draft for 2023. This is obviously fluid depending on where the Vikings end up after playoffs or Superbowl.

I'll take that for 2023 when you have to consider that the Lions weren't going to extend Hockenson after his 5th year option was completed and letting him walk in 2024 as an UFA. The best they would've received in a comp pick for Hockenson would be a 2025 4th round. They're getting better compensation now for 2023 and 2024 than they would letting him sign elsewhere in new league year 2024.

I'm happy for Hockenson being able to go to a team that looks to be division winners and going forward to the playoffs.

Can you imagine what opponent's defensive coordinators are contemplating right now. Who will they shade coverage to with their safeties: Thielen, J. Jefferson, Dalvin Cook, Hockenson?

Vikings placed Irv Smith on IR today with a high ankle sprain and he's out for 8-10 weeks.

Trading Hockenson also frees up 9.4M in cap space for next year and Lions desperately need every damn $ they can scrape together.

Many fans will be pissed for trading Hockenson; however, this current roster or even adding in next year's draft picks and minimal free agent signings are not going to catapult this team to be competitive enough to contend for a playoff spot outside of a N.Y. Giants type miracle turnaround. Highly unlikely that will happen.
