Is that $700M revenue or profit though? There's a lot more cost to running a team and arena than just the cap costs.
Revenue...you're right about other costs. Still shows they can afford a crazy payroll and it looks like they're willing

Yep. His momma didn’t raise a fool. If someone wants to give you $50 million a year to play a game you take it.

THEN if you still want out, make your move.

The Dirk comment is a little off though, as Dallas actually built a contender around him and got that ring. The Wizards seem to flounder around Beal every year, even after a hot start this past season. His dedication is admirable, but his team is failing him.

The Los Angeles Lakers offered Russell Westbrook, Talen Horton-Tucker and a 2026 first-round draft pick to the Indiana Pacers for Malcolm Brogdon, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reported on The Lowe Post podcast (1:47:10 mark). That offer was reportedly rejected.

That's clearly not the offer. Doesn't come close to working under the cap. What else did the Lakers ask for?

Yep and honestly don't think that's a bad offer but a team needs to believe in Russ turning it around to agree to that and Indy clearly doesn't

...or just want those cap savings to get out from under some contracts (like the Hornets reportedly)

They need to cash in some of those young players to add a third guy and pray to the hoops gods that zinger is healthy

The real money made in pro sports is seen in the valuation of the team. What did they buy for and what is the net worth of the franchise now?
Paid $450 million in 2010. Worth $5 BILLION now, thanks in part to the arena. They gonna spend.

That’s a ridiculous rate of return. That’s more than 10xs the valuation in only 12 years. Luxury tax to us looks like life changing money. To them it’s you need to spend money to make money.

Yeah, bad idea most likely re: Zinger. 3rd team now to try that...

Sure, but luxury tax repeater penalties will force changes sooner or later. The Warriors will need to reset that soon.

They're the Yankees/Dodgers of the NBA right now as far as ignoring spending limits

And by that time ownership will have already made that money back. Lakers have a similar cap issue. They just are run by morons who make shit decisions.

Not soon. I suspect they will keep the pedal to the metal for at least the rest of Curry's time (4 years)

We'll see. Those taxes are going to skyrocket even further, not just repeat.

The repeat offender tax rate begins at a stunning $2.50/dollar of salary over then increases to $2.75, $3.50 and $4.25 for every additional $5M over the line. After the levied $4.25/dollar of salary over, the NBA charges 50 cents for every additional $5M.

How many rings do the Lakers have compared to the Sixers?
