I think what they were referring to is that the patriots never have had to pick a QB and start him immediately during the TB12 era. Nowadays, other
teams have thrown today's young QBs into the fire and they seem to succeed. They refer to Allen, Watson and Jackson while QBs that have ben forced to wait on the sidelines, haven't fared well like Rosen, Locke, Stidham. I can see their point. Don't have to agree that every kid is ready, but the argument is that you don't know and if they don't play, maybe it does something to their swagger.
Sorry but the two best QBs are Mahomes and Rodgers and both started their careers getting splinters.

Can't disagree. But Allen, Watson, Jackson, Carr and Hebert are just the opposite.

Arguments on both sides. Six of one, half dozen of the other.

Ran into one of my guys at Walmart this morning. We laughed about both of us basically being house bound.

He's in touch with a lot of people and he made couple of really great points this morning.

1. Has anyone ever considered that BB wanted Tom Brady to end his career on a positive note? 2019 was bad and Bill knew that 2020 was going to be a horror show. Has Brady ever said anything negative about BB or the Patriots Owners or management since he left? He thinks it may have been a gentlemen's agreement and to hell with everyone else. Never thought of it that way.

2. He told me that fans are going to be beside themselves when free agency comes around. There are going to be a slug of stars available and Bill is going to ignore most of them. he going to sign guys that will step in and play their asses off like Van Noy and Collins did and not cost a fortune. He told me to expect Bill to sign about 8 or 10 guys and we'll shake our collective heads until the games count in 2021.

3. He thinks that Bill will also sign Andy Dalton. He's always liked him and if Josh is here, it will make all the sense in the world especially if the Patriots draft a QB of the future. A vet who will do what is necessary to play and will work with the kids and guide them through the deep grass.

4. He doesn't think that BB will even entertain any of the high priced WRs like Godwin, Green, Robinson or Jones.. He does think that Fuller's expected price will keep teams away as will his behavior which might just be the thing that BB will use and bring him into the fold.

He promised to keep in touch. I'll pass along anything I hear from him.

Seems that the Patriots have been very busy over the past week dealing with their own roster.

1. The Patriots have contacted Stephon Gilmore' and his agent and they are talking about a contract extension that will keep Gilmore in Foxboro until the end of 2024. Gilmore apparently was very receptive to the idea. Gilmore has $8M of dead money on the Pats cap. An extension that would average $15M a year with $30M guaranteed would give the Pats $3M more in 2021 and leverage the dead money. This is one that could go completely sideways in a heartbeat.

2. The patriots are also talking to Marcus Cannon. Cutting him would be a $6.5M savings and a $2.5M dead money hit. Cannon knows that the Pats will cut him if he doesn't agree to a new contract. The truth is that they have two young 2020 rookies who both played much better. My guess is that Cannon will get a 3 year contract for $12M with $6M guaranteed. Most likely he'll get cut next year.

3. Patriots have reportedly been talking with Dontae Hightower about a new contract. He hasn't played a full 16 game season for a couple of years and opted out of 2020. Sitting out a year might let the body do some healing, but if the player wasn't in the gym at least two or three days every week, the healing may have been for naught. HT is a valuable commodity as a leader on the field and the Pats want him back but BB would like him back at less than $17.5M and might just be inclined to move on and get younger. If he were to be released, it's assumed that he might have an really tough time getting anywhere close to $12M. He'll most likely have a new contract by training camp and probably around $13M per.

4. Damiere Byrd is a FA but his people called the patriots and asked if they would be interested in bring him bck for 3 years at $16.5M. The Patriots thaanked him but declined. The Pats WR are plentiful, if not really great. Harry, Meyers, Gunner, Zubel, Edelman, Adeboyejo, Lee, Montcrief, Smith.

We all know that the Patriots need a better group and chances are that at least five of these guys probably six are not going to be here come September. In "my" opinion, Edelman, Meyers, Gunner, Harry and Lee will stay at least temporarily. If they can do it, Harry will be in a trade of some kind. JE11 could end up in Tampa bay for a pick or one the Bucs extra TEs. I could see Devin Smith coming back if everything works out but the mold has been cast and it was ugly in 2020.

5. Patriots and Jason McCourty appear to be on the same page and the twins should be finishing their careers playing side by side in Foxboro.

I'm not convinced Edelman will play.
Moncrief is part of the non-performance of the receivers.
We know nothing about what we'll get from Adeboyejo. He has 0 stats in 4 yrs of NFL. ST's or gone.
Smith is a 29 yo receiver who has never quite made it. If he breaks a nail he'll be gone. Camp body
Lee is 29, out all of 2018, 3 yards per catch in 2019, sat out of 2020. Camp body.
Zuber is interesting. Underperformed as a senior after 3 good years. Was UDFA. squeaked into 4 games as rookie/PS. Never missed a catch.
Gunner improved and can return
We are stuck with Harry. Maybe a good QB cah help him grow? He played well with Stidham?????
Meyers is a very good WR2 or 3
Byrd is a good WR3 - One trick pony or handicapped by Cam?
All these guys need a good camp!

Cannon to Houston

Cap dump by NE. Saves $6 million +
Exchange 4th, 5th, and 6th, rounds.
That moves us up about 11 picks in each of 4th, 5th, and 6th rounds!

What's that worth? Maybe the equivalent of another sixth?

I certainly can live with that. I said that he'd be cut or have to take a huge salary cut. This works for both the Patriots and Cannon.
According to NBC Spots Boston, the savings will be about $7.6M. Sounds like BB is just starting to get warmed up.

Legal tampering supposedly starts tomorrow. Phones should start ringing anytime now.

Cannon is also late in his career and gets to go home to Texas.....

This is what you do when a noise wakes you up at 4:30 am on a Thursday morning:

With all of the signings that have taken place, it’s time to look at the overall difference of the Patriots.

OFFENSE

QB:

Cam Newton and Jarrett Stidham.

Not any different from last year but having a full training camp and a year under their belts, there should be improvement. Only two free agent QBs and BB doesn’t seem interested in either. Alex Smith, Mitch Trubinsky.

RB:

Sony Michele, Damien Harris, JJ Taylor, Brandon Bolden

The two main guys have had injuries but are not in a healing process in 2021. A replacement for James White on 3rd down will be needed unless someone (Taylor) can step up. Bolden is ST only except in emergencies.

TE:

Jonnu Smith, Hunter Henry, Devin Asiasi, Ryan Izzo, Dalton Keene, Matt LaCosse

Smith and Henry will be here for sure. Two others could stay. Asiasi could be transformed into an H-Back or WR with a slight weight loss. Keene hasn’t had a chance to show his stuff.

WR:

Nelson Algholor, Kendrick Bourne, Julian Edelman, N’Keal Harry, Marqise Lee, Jakobi Meyers, Gunner Olszewski, Matthew Slater, Devin Smith, Kristian Wilkerson, Isaiah Zuber

Not the greatest bunch, but it’s more palatable than last year. Picking six won’t be hard. Gunner and Slater are ST locks.

OT:

Trent Brown, Isaiah Wynn, Mike Onwenue, Justin Herron, Korey Cunningham, Yodny Cajuste

Solid as a rock.

OG:

Shaq Mason, Ross Reynolds, Najee Toran

Someone will have to take Thuney’s spot on the left side. Another free agent? Or move in a flexible tackle?

C:

Ted Karras, Marcus Martin

Martin was the USC starting center for three years. He can play, just don’t know if he can play in the NFL.

P/K

Punter is Jake Bailey.

There are two kickers on the roster:

Robert Aguayo and Justin Rohrwasser

One or both will kick themselves off the team.

DEFENSE

DT:

Davon Godchaux, Henry Anderson, Beau Allen, Michael Barnett, Byron Coward, Carl Davis, Akeem Spence, Nick Thurman

This group will have to prove it’s as good as last year as several players have become free agents.

EDGE:

Matthew Judon, Chase Winovich, Deatrich Wise, Bill Murray, Anferee Jennings, Tashon Bower

With the addition of Judon, this is a solid group of rushers and edge protections.

ILB:

Dontae Hightower, Cassh Maluia, Josh Uche, Terez hall, Ja’Whaun Bentley, Michael Pinckney

This group will only get better wil Hightower coming back .

S:

Jalen Mills, Patrick Chung, Adrian Phillips, Devin McCourty, Kyle Dugger, Justin Bethel

No problems here.

CB:

J.C. Jackson, Stephon Gilmore, Michael Jackson, Johnathan Jones, D’Angelo Ross, Jojuan Williams, Dee Virgin,

If BB decides to trade Gilmore and another team makes a huge offer to J.C., this group could get very weak in a hurry.

Pats released Beau Allen and Marquis Lee. Two decions already made before cut downs.
