I seriously doubt it. They're paying Lebron $42.5 million per and they're paying AD $38 million per. I don't see them paying more per year for a player who has shown himself to be, at best, the 3rd option on a true contender.

I may be wrong, but I think the Clips are going to end up regretting giving him that kind of money.

I totally think the Clips will regret it in a few years.

I also think the Lakers are much better off with what they have now.

But IF they had cap space and Giannis and Kawhi were both unavailable, you best believe they would be in line with the other contenders to try to sign George.

Despite his playoff struggles, George has a skill set that fits quite well with other star players. And he would be sought after.

I also literally said the Clippers are the only true contenders dumb enough to offer him the max, other than a bottom feeder with cap space.

And I am telling you that isn’t true.

Please go ahead and find me a better player than Paul George who isn’t on either a rookie deal or a max contract.

You can’t. Because that is what the market price is for star of PG’s caliber.

And if the Clippers didn’t do it, there would be other top teams in line to do it.

Yeah i dont think they woukd do it with lebron on the team....now if lebron was elsewhere and it was just AD then hell yeah they'll offer him a max

If it was LeBron and no AD they definitely would also.

It would depend, imo.

As good as PG has been in the regular season, he has shown that he can't be depended on in the playoffs. If AD had shown himself to be a #1 on a contender (which he can't really do as long as Lebron is there and playing at a high level), then they might do it as long as it wouldn't prevent them from being able able to sign another max level player.

The one good thing that it looks like the Clippers did is that, at least part of it seems to be incentive based. If I understand the contract correctly, it's $190 million over 5 years, but can be as much as $226 million with whatever incentives/bonuses are in the contract.
The extension is 4 years and 190....he is due 35 million this season.

Highway robbery. Just another example of how pro athletes are way overpaid.

And I call BS on that.

You know PG wasn't the same player last year than he was two or three years ago, right?

He made the top 20. Just. Two years ago he would have been a top 10 guy.

Unless you're getting a superstar, nobody is going to give somebody $50m a year for a clear #2 option.

Well, unless you're the Clippers.

Doug Gottlieb actually just made a good point about that on Cowherd and says that's a big part of why NBA players don't understand the real world.

If, during the most important time of year for our companies, you or I were to perform for them the way PG has performed for his...we'd be happy to just keep our jobs, let alone get an extension that pays us more than almost all others who have performed far better.

I don't even see him as a #2 option. At least during the playoffs. We've spent the past couple of seasons watching him as the #2 guy and it didn't work out so well.

Nikola Jokic, Jimmy Butler and Joel Embiid.

I'm not talking max contract, i'm talking how much they're being paid. All three of those guys are better than PG and earn almost $10m a year less.

Agreed.

So which championship contender is going to spend $50m a year on a probable #3 guy?

That's why athletes shouldn't be role models. Barkley took alotta shit for his commericals back in the day. But I think he was right. And the insane salaries players get (not just in basketball) is why I'll never spend the money to have a great seat at any game. Tickets costs way too much.
