Are those guys the ones getting the big endorsement deals though? Seems like it's just a bonus for the stars that will turn pro ASAP anyway, more than anything.
A player who is good enough to leave school early is who is likely to be getting the deals. There are plenty of players every year who make the jump early, who aren't quite ready, but their family needs the money.
I look at a guy like Evan Mobley at USC. He's going to be a top 5 pick, but from what I saw of him this year, I think he could use another season to fill out his frame and expand his game a little more. Maybe he stays if he has a way to offset some of what he'd make going early? Then goes to the NBA next year as a better, stronger player.
