It really is not that far off...

Yeah, it is though. That is why she said it sarcastically.

If he wanted to sign for cheap, he would have done it in Denver.

I don’t think he gets a big long term deal, but there are going to be some bad teams out there with cap space willing to offer a guy like Barton something like 20 million a year for 2 seasons or so.

And Barton is probably going to sign with the highest bidder. I would be shocked if he got less than 14.7 that he turned down.

So not really much risk.

Pretty sure you said the same thing about Boogie two years ago and he got significantly less than the MLE from the Lakers that year.

Detroit has a thing for our overpriced refugees and maybe they'll take this one as well.

That's the only realistic scenario I see Barton approaching that $14.7 million.

Boogie chose to take less money to bet on himself and win a ring with GS.

He lost the bet.

Barton is in a totally different situation.

I am betting Barton gets more. Either something like a 3 year 36 million like Q suggested, or a short term deal for more than 15 million a year.

that was well before fa wasn’t it?

Exactly.

Which makes the situation similar to an opt out. Turning down a solid contract for the uncertainty of free agency.

ha

screw you, Lebron

LOL, sincerely doubt it affects the Lakers two years in a row. Some other team will be forced to earn it's playoff seeding for more than 82 games. At least baseball recognized that the Covid rules changes were temporary and should remain so.

True.

But he did turn down a much bigger offer from the Pelicans.

These guys also take winning into play when deciding on what money they'll sign for. Denver is very unlikely to be the favorite in West in the near future, although they'll be in the mix. Signing with a team like the Clippers or Lakers could make them a big favorite. Barton may be a better fit with George than Kawhi, although both have their injury histories. George seemed to blossom a bit with Kawhi sidelined this past postseason.

Denver and Barton are both interested in a new deal, but it will have to be on Barton's terms this time.
