What is your definition of basketball IQ?

I've seen many scouts say he has defensive lapses, poor shot selection, poor offensive efficiency, high turnover rate. Those to me are components of basketball IQ.

Lastly, you've never seemed to mention specifically why Wiseman's basketball IQ is so low. Feel free to elaborate.

Wiseman’s biggest issue to me is his hands.

Hard to be a good big if you have trouble catching the ball.

First half of the season he looked like Erick Dampier out there trying to catch the damn ball. He had the worst stone hand I've ever seen (Dampier). But towards the latter part of the season his hands started to improve. He needs to really, really work on that part of his game though, 10000%

He's already 20 years old so it's probably too late for him to improve.

Haha.

No seriously though, had a similar conversation with @trojanfan12 about a different development issue with THT.

Obviously he can improve that aspect of his game.

But…

The best big men throughout history tend to have not just good hands, but like vacuum cleaner hands.

It might be the single most important skill for a player you expect to catch lobs in traffic, get tough rebounds, etc.

And this is a skill that most good NBA bigs don’t have to work on because they have had it mastered for years and it comes naturally.

So it is definitely a cause for concern for me.

And then what is the cause of his struggles catching the ball?

Is it poor eye hand coordination or lack of spatial awareness or something else?

Because those 2 I mentioned probably aren’t fixable.

I'm hoping it was concentration issues. Felt like he was trying to process too much information at once. Kind of like watching a Wide Receiver turn up field before securing the ball and dropping it. But who knows, we don't have a big enough sample size yet to know if it'll be a fixable problem.

Sorry.

But, if they trade him as I expect they probably do…

Then it won’t really matter for you.
True. It just feels like they aren't doing anything...maybe they just draft with their picks and hope they have enough to compete.

LOL.

That is absolutely ridiculous.

Wiseman + 7 + 14 is enough in terms of assets to land just about star on the block.

The problem for the Dubs is that the most available stars (Beal, Lillard) don’t fit what they need.

I can fit beal in there. With klay losing a half step (presumably after 2 major injuries) sliding him up to the 3 works.

but i agree it’s not perfect. But it’s seemingly the best you can do now
