I think the concept of the cap hold is what keeps teams from doing this. If you want to retain those Bird Rights a certain percentage of the current dollar amount counts against the cap to keep the player's Bird rights. A team can quit claim on those Bird Rights and lose the cap hold.
Yep from my days with 2K the cap hold restricts that or else there would be a lot of teams making crazy moves.

The Cavs need Garland & LeVert back in the worst way. Nice crowd at the game last night though.
Only having one ball handler is tough but Goodwin played well, he best game as a pro. They just tried to slow the pace but they got in too much of a hole but I thought somehow they would pull it off when Cedi hitting them game-tying 3. Towns has reason to believe he is a great shooter, he came up clutch again despite having a poor game to his standards.

I just hope Garland & LeVert return before the Cavs drop too far in the standings.

Gonna be a tough next 2 weeks so if they don't come back then they could definitely go on a long losing streak.

Well there is one thing I do know, they have a better shot than the Lakers, so do the Clippers

I'll take the 17-1 and 17-0 franchise championship advantages respectively and expect similar odds going forward. :suds:

That would depend on if the Lakers decide to rebuild without any other super stars. Truthfully, however there can be one starting point guard. The only way that could have worked would have to played Lebron less minutes and brought West brook off the bench with the other cancer named Carmello Anthony

I would rather move forward with Nunn, Reaves, or even the newly signed Augustin at PG over Westbrook. His shot is broken, doesn't play defense, has become a turnover magnet and bricks even his layups. The man has no shooting touch; every shot looks like it was thrown overhand.

I see you still haven't come up with a GM who wouldn't have done that trade in that situation.

Must be because it wrecks your narrative.

Who knows what other GMs would do? I can't even name most of the GMs in the league.

I can tell you this, a lot of GM's have bigger balls than Pelinka but that isn't saying much LOL

Lakers fans are very whiney these days and it's funny. A team with Lebron, AD and Russ is 7 games under .500...that is very sad.

Lebron and Davis have only played 21 games together this season. Russ has been available all season except one game before the all star break (for better or worse).

I'm just disappointed, mostly in the lack of consistent effort.

Possibly because they trying to get Vogel fired.

Different - I have no doubt - but different doesn't mean better

Now if Jeanie Buss would call Lebron into her office and then tell him privately to keep his mouth shut and let the front office decide what the team needs - then they might get better. There is a reason Kobe Bryant never tried to get into the business of the front office - He let the experts do what they needed too.

Are there experts in the Lakers front office? I see mostly progeny of a great owner that have earned little on their own failing to lead a historic franchise adequately. Pelinka has been OK, but needs more of a spine (or consistent backing from ownership to show that spine).

At this point in his career I don't think LeBron's capable of keeping his mouth shut.
Well, no, he isn't capable, but he has never handled things like a man and has always been somewhat cowardly about it. I do audits for a living, so I had to learn how to tell people straight, but politely what I need and when their records weren't straight...That is no an easy skill by any means

Westbrook is a good player if everyone else are role players, so if the Lakers were to decide on a complete rebuild, knowing that they will not be relevant for a few years, then He would keep them in a few games. It would be nice if he did not pick up his player option, but there is no way anyone would be interested in paying him the same insane amount of money. As an expiring contract, He would be an easy trade, but we wont have any draft picks, so the Lakers might be screwed

It's been all season though. It's like they assumed the name recognition of the 3 guys was enough to win most nights. This team is so much worse defensively, and that's largely due to that lack of consistent effort. That's why guys like Reaves and Stanley Johnson have stood out at times; they are full effort all the time, even if not always in ideal position.

Well they did bring us a championship, and that was something. You can't expect to get titles every year

I disagree. Westbrook WAS a good player. He is a high usage guy that has lost any jumper that he had and still tries to play at 100mph, leading to clanked lay ups and erratic bank shots (that used to be money with). He can put up stats on a bad team, but the value of those stats is highly questionable.

I'm not so sure he's an easy trade next season either; at least not for a trade that makes sense. Who wants to shed $40+M of valuable assets? More likely, the options will be more trades like the Wall deal; other teams trying to shed overpaid vets on bad deals.
