Back to backs are just part of the game. They are the best athletes in the world, shouidnt be a big deal.
Every sport has some games close together...baseball obviously but even football with the Thursday games

Well…

In a traditional sense of the team that has the most best players,

Yes. For sure Philly is more talented.

In the sense of quality depth that actually fits together?

Toronto for sure.

Will be an interesting first round of that is how the matchups play out.
That’s the way I see it. Toronto is evidence of a philosophy and a plan. They are littered with length. A lot of guys 6’6 - 6’10 with heaps of athleticism working under the tutelage of a guy in Nurse who can craft some great defensive schemes. They have an identity and the roster reflects that. The Sixers right now are incomplete (at best). They went and found a guy to pair with Embiid. They need another off season to craft the rest of the roster around that. But again…watching what they are right now, they’ve misassessed what Harden is now in his career.

Philly was better before adding Harden. They were more like the Raptors but with a way better centerpiece.
Debatable. The major issues they have now still existed.
- lack of athleticism
- poor perimeter defense
- poor rebounding

The first one creates the issue with the other two.

The one thing I know for sure… Pre-trade and post-trade, neither team is or was a true contender.

Im ok with limiting them though. 10 should be the max imo

They’ll never do it because it means fewer games and less money but the answer is to reduce 82 games to around 56-60 games. The product gets better. But that’s not the way you maximize revenue in this day and age so it will never happen.

Even dropping like 10 games can eliminate the need for back to backs

The back to backs are the biggest stated reason for the load management. They often create 4 games in 5 or 6 day scenarios. The occasional back to back followed by two off days isn’t so bad. It’s when the schedule creates those moments that create the load management.

And again…I’m back to my I hate analytics rant. Somebody came up with some formula about fatigue leading to increased risk of long term injury. So psychologically now, guys are afraid to become the cautionary tale. If you have status in this league and your position on your roster is safe you’ve become conditioned to use load management. We should be seeing the opposite like what LeBron embraces. Love the guy or hate the guy, for most of his career he has respected the role he plays knowing that if he comes in one night a year to Toronto that the league needs him to show up and do his part. People pay the ticket just to see him.

Nba eliminated 4 in 5 a few years ago. Basically the only reason a team play them now is due to postponement from covid

Embiid wins scoring title now. LeBron is still eligible but you divide his points by 58 games instead of the 56 he played and his average (for scoring title purposes) goes below 30 PPG.

Science runs counter to the traditional schedule.

And in most cases, it isn’t the player saying he doesn’t want to play.

It is the organization protecting their investment in the player.

Sixers have had two 4 in 5/6 stretches this season without having any Covid cancellations

Not sure why Miami would want to contribute to Nets being the 9 or 10 seed. Miami would rather avoid Nets in round 1 and instead play Hawks or Cavs or Hornets

The Athletic today was saying Giannis was its latest MVP pick but called the race between the top 3 extremely close and said all are worthy. I tend to agree, but Jokic just set a statistical mark no one has reached before, and if Embiid wins the scoring title, that will also be a big stat to tout. It's going to be controversial no matter who wins it. I personally don't care like I said earlier in the thread, but I think Embiid clearly wants it and will be devastated if he loses it despite finally playing a full season.
