Was quite the men's final today between 2 of the all time greats. Congrats to Joker on the win.

federer lost because......

even though he is the more talented player, djokovic is the more confident player. djokovic played the more solid tennis under pressure, while federer made more errors at crucial times during the match.

federer doesn't play classic grass court tennis even though he has all the tools. he should be coming forward and volleying the ball out of the air at every opportunity, and with his serve, playing a serve & volley game much more often.

federer has so much variety he'll overthink a lot of shots, when he should just be playing percentage tennis. just hit the ball where they ain't.

Fed had it. He just needed to put more pace and angle on that forehand he came in on match point. Instead he played it too safe. He also should have used his slice BH more. Nole was really not doing anything special with it unless he really floated it. He made a ton of errors with the topspin BH.

Fed is years older than Joker. It sucks Fed lost. If Joker passes Fed, I'm not going to call him the GOAT. No one could beat Fed in his prime, other than Nadal on clay. And Fed was beating guys like Roddick, Murray, and even Djokovic. Who is competing with Joker today? The same guys who he's chasing.

I wonder how Joker will be playing when he's Fed's age and starts losing matches. I wonder if he will even put up half the fight Fed does at his age.

fed didn't play either match point well. on the first, he missed his first served, then made a forehand error. on the second, he tried to come to the net after approaching to djokovic's forehand, and was easily passed. not a good approach shot at all. approaching up the line is always risky. better to go cross court and pull the other play wide. would have been a great time for roger to serve and volley, which he rarely did.

agree too many errors.

It was there for him. 2 match points on his own serve.

I was bummed out all day. Especially after Saturday's debacle.

Thank fuck Lewis Hamilton won the Brit GP.

You're acting like Nole is young. He is the same age as Murray and 1 year younger than Nadal. Fed is the only "old one".

Bottom line is Fed is the GOAT no matter what and yesterday showed it. I know Novak isn't young, but he's five years younger than Roger.

That is your opinion.

Fed did a lot of his damage when his best competition was Roddick or Hewitt on hardcourts and grass

Novak is doing all his damage while playing with 2 of the top 5 players ever.

That is more impressive.

Hard to see Fed winning a GS outside of Wimbledon so there is a solid chance that Novak ends up with more majors while playing his entire career in a more difficult era.

Man Fed has choked a lot of big time matches away. He may end up 3rd behind Nadal.Djokovic is in the slam count now. He better hope a young gun starts dominating these two

Fed had 6 GS titles before Rafa became a serious threat on the other surfaces.

IMO, there is a significant drop in GS titles if he came up at the same time as Novak and Andy

Only an idiot would put him behind Nadal.

Here are the players Fed played on his way to GS titles prior to the 2017 US Open when he started playing Andy, Nole, and Rafa in almost every GS title

2003 Wimbledon- Mark Philippoussis
2004 AO- Safin
2004 Wimby-Roddick
2004 US Open- Hewitt
2005 Wimby- Roddick
2005 US Open- A very washed Agassi (retired in 2006)
2006 AO- Baghdatis
2006 Wimby-Rafa
2006 US Open- Roddick
2007 AO- Fernando Gonzalez

This is half of his GS titles.

Now let's look at who Nole played in the finals of his first 10 GS titles

2008 AO- Tsonga
2011 AO- Murray
2011 Wimby- Rafa
2011 US Open- Rafa
2012 AO- Rafa
2013 AO- Murray
2014 Wimbledon-Fed
2014 AO- Murray
2015 Wimbledon- Fed
2015 US Open- Fed

Do you not see the difference in competition Nole faced in finals of his first 10 GS titles?

IMO when it is all over with for the big 3, Novak will be looked at as the best ever unless he falls off a cliff in the next couple of years.
