I agree but my point yesterday is that Fed took advantage of that brief 2-3 year window he had before Novak and Murray became big time players. He won 10 majors or so from 2003-2006

you just assuming that was a window. federer played against other big time players. federer just beat them down.

the depth in the men's games seem a bit question over the last couple years or so.

I know, I haven't posted yet about the SFs and Finals.

I had to watch them a few days late.

But glad I was able to, spoiler-free.

Surprised Federer beat Nadal, but good to see them have another great battle late in a major.

He even seemed to do well from the backhand side.
Serena vs. Halep

Just like with Serena vs. Kerber the year before, Halep moved Serena around and Serena would make a quick error.

Great job by Halep, she didn't drop her level at all during the match.

Federer vs. Djokovic:

Some of you may know that I hate watching Federer in tiebreak against a top opponent.

He just usually loses them.

That's why I don't like watching him on grass as much anymore, because if he gets into a tiebreak, I don't like his chances.

For example, in the 2016 Wimbledon match vs. Cilic, Federer lost the 1st set tiebreak, and that's why he was down 0-2 sets.

I just like watching him more on a surface where he can break more easily, so he doesn't have to play these tiebreaks

And can have more margin for error.

So in this match, I wasn't surprised when Federer lost the 1st set tiebreak.

He did also lose tiebreaks to Djokovic in 2014 and 2015.

And then in this match, he lost 2 tiebreak sets.

Federer had a lead in the first tiebreak set, and lost.

Federer had a set point in the 3rd, and lost.

As usual, when Federer faces a top opponent, he's not that great in either converting break chances, or even generating break chances.

Federer had match points in the 5th, and lost.

This match was so intense, that it got to the point where it wasn't fun.

Because I wanted Federer to win so badly, because of how few chances he's had to beat Djokovic, and his long struggles at beating him at a major.

I've rarely watched a sporting event and felt that it was too intense that it wasn't fun, but this was it.

I just didn't care anymore how he won, I just wanted him to win.

Again, that's not normally like me, as I like to watch someone win and play well, not someone win and play like crap or win because the other player sucked more.

Because that's not as entertaining.

This might be the best tennis match I've seen, because it's rare to watch a championship match where both players have match points.

But again, it wasn't the most fun.

Djokovic has lost 3 matches while having match point.

Nadal has lost 8.

Federer has lost 22.

Stats prove Roger Federer has lost more matches from match point as compared to Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic combined | FOX Sports Asia

Federer has saved match points in 21 matches and won.

Nadal has saved match points in 14 matches and won.

Djokovic has saved match points in 14 matches and won.

Match points saved and squandered by the Big Four

Murray has lost 5 matches where he had match point.

Murray has saved match points in 11 matches and won.

It's amazing how all 4 of these guys have saved match points and won in at least 11 matches.

I wonder what that percentage is, vs. their total losses.

I'll look that up another time.

like i said he's won one major on hard courts in the last 6 years. sure he's had some good showings, but this is not the rafa that was regularly beating prime federer.

i seriously doubt he ever wins another major outside of the french.

prime rafa would be giving federer and joker all they want, instead of being dominated by both. prime rafa was a beast.

That changed a few months later.

so he has 1. not having federer and joker in his way helped.

Is Federer's 2018 Australian Open discounted, because he didn't have Djokovic or Nadal in his way?

i don't think there's any question federer has the better hardcourt record, with or without that ao.

Opelka up 2 sets on Fognini. Rain delay on the outer courts though so only 3 matches going on right now.
