Most NFL players never become millionaires, after taxes. The average playing career is around 4 years
The smart players invest their money wisely instead of spending it on frivilous things. Too many players just spend their money foolishly.

would you like it if teams could stash players in a minor league system where they'll be lucky to make even half a mil?

Never mind your logic is faulty.

If I were the player being released, no I would not like it...but I'd be OK if I was the guy taking his place.
There are folks in every walk of life that are fired or laid off that make considerably less than pro athletes.

Exactly, which is why I don't get the beef against the NFL owners. Peter Lewis makes a nice living I'm sure. Don't get the job done or not earn your value at Progressive and my guess is they will get rid of you.

You would be short-sighted then.
Or I would be objective.....Do you not get they can only have 53 players, the owners need to spend a certain amount and the cap adjusts based on their revenue?

Those folks can apply to a different company for a similar job. There is no equal alternative to the NFL.

Every other sport has scaled roster limits and (other than baseball) firmer salary cap requirements.

And maybe the issue is they caved too easily in other sports.

MLB has "firmer salary cap requirements" with no cap?

Missing the point. If you make $450k for 3 years then get cut after taking 5 concussions and a knee injury, plus spend money living your life, plus not having much in the way of job prospects....no amount of investing will save you

All I want is better medical care for all NFL players and guaranteed contracts. That's it.

Some do depending on the physical demands of their job and pro athletes should know the risks of playing a contact sport.

Did you really not see the (other than baseball) part?

And it's their fault a player has no other prospects? Not a lot, but they would get $21K per year after 3 years.

nope...missed it. But OK, then there is really only 1 other sport, the NBA, that we are talking about. so one has a cap, one doesn't.

Not saying at all I'd be opposed, but I can also see the other side. I'd rather contracts have less guarantees in NBA and MLB

correct....and likely the "other jobs" you mention don't start their employees with salaries of 500K minimum.
