Giants drafted a kid named Connor Cannon, who joins Frankie Tostado as my co-favorite name in the system.

Cannon has some intrigue as well. Massive homerun power, and he can throw 96 on the mound.

The next Brooks Kieschnick!

Apparently the Giants signed, or essentially have signed their #11 pick, Trevor McDonald. 11th rounders fall outside the slotting mechanics and are often good players with signability issues. Locking him up indicates great value.

  • The Giants have agreed with fifth-rounder Garrett Frechette, MLB.com’s Jim Callis reports (Twitter link). The deal will pay Frechette an $800K bonus, well over double the $371.6K slot value attached to the 146th overall pick. It’s a sizable commitment to the high school outfield/first baseman, who had committed to attend San Diego State. Frechette’s selection spot also outpaced his status in the eyes of pre-draft pundits, as MLB.com had him as the 196th-best prospect in the draft while Baseball America ranked him 214th. This could be due to an injury-filled senior season for Frechette, who displayed some intriguing left-handed power potential when he did take the field.

First pick that we know has signed. McDonald was "preparing to sign" last I heard. I assume Frechette will start the year in the AZL.

If he could be half the hitter the Toy Cannon was, I'd be pleased.

And how could you not like van Gurp as a name in the system? Alas, he gone now. :(

But we got a 29 year old of prospect in return

The 9th (Houghtby) and 10th (Whiteman) round picks have both signed as they are now on Salem's roster.

By my count, that means the Giants have locked up half of their picks. Last year, they signed 35 of 40 picks (plus 7 more NDFAs).

Looking at the remaining 20 un-signed picks, 9 of them are high schoolers (Only McDonald, which is rumored to be signed but not confirmed yet, is above the 20th round), 1 a junior college student (40th round), 1 a redshirt sophomore (39th round pick), 7 juniors at 4 years and 2 are seniors (21st and 23rd round picks).

I assume that Bryce Fehmel and Taylor Rashi will sign since they are seniors (Rashi is quoted as wanting to move on to professional ball), so we could assume that they are near locks. McDonald, I assume, is a matter of time before he is officially signed. However, I doubt many, if any of the other 8 high schoolers sign since they were picked fairly low, but a couple may surprise us. The redshirt sophomore and junior college guys could sign, but since they are the last two picks, I would assume they both go back to school to see if they can go higher next year.

At this point, I would guess that most of the juniors drafted sign, and that the Giants will sign a total of about 28 to 30 of the Giants' 40 picks sign. We will probably have 2 to 3 more non-drafted free agents as well, depending on what that final number of picks signing will be.

The only new signings I see here are Armani Smith (7th), Brandon Martorano (16th) and Taylor Rashi (23rd).
I assume that Bryce Fehmel (21st) is a close to sure thing to sign since he was a college senior. The rest could go either way.

Louisville's season ended last night, which means the Giants can now 'officially' talk to their 2nd and 4th round picks, which will likely lead to them signing Bishop here very soon.

Texas Tech was also eliminated, so Caleb Kilian should be signing soon.

The 21st round pick, Bryce Fehmel, has signed and is on the AZL Black squad.

That leaves the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 8th, 11th, 25th, 27th, 28th, 32nd and 34th-40th round picks unsigned. I don't expect many of those guys from the 25th round on to sign. The 11th round pick is shaky as well. Hopefully, we can get the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 8th round guys locked up.

From Gs website:
SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants have officially signed their top two picks from their 2019 Draft class, reaching agreements with Arizona State outfielder Hunter Bishop and Louisville first baseman Logan Wyatt on Saturday.

Bishop, the 10th overall pick of the 2019 Draft, signed for $4.1 million, more than $600,000 below slot value, according to MLB Pipeline's Jim Callis. Wyatt, a second-round selection, also signed an under-slot deal worth $1 million.
