If JJ keeps Garrett then he,JJ, has to think his problem is player personnel. Then what?

The absolutely only way that Garrett would stay a Cowboy is if he got moved up to the front office somewhere.
He is a high character guy to have around, but his coaching days in Dallas are over.

Everything seems to indicate that JJ doesn't agree. If he did Garrett would have been fired already. The fact they continue to talk would almost make me think they are negotiating an extension

This past season was the most frustrating to me yet. Blown opportunities all season. So many of those games lost could have been won. Special team totally stunk. Forbath was the only positive. The rest all sucked.

Offense only scored in the second halves most games. Defense rarely got any three and outs.

Dak needs to be signed early this off season

I don't think it will be 25 per as the cowboys offered and not the 40 per Dak's camp countered with. I do think it's a bit more than wentz and goff, which seems about right to me

Prescott should be franchise tagged. He's not worth, even potentially, the money he's asking for.

Let the new HC decide after next season if Prescott's the guy going forward or not.

Two questions.
What is he worth?

What is he asking for?

The Cowboys were uninspiring in 2019 and hopefully, Jerry will hire a coach to hold every player accountable. Dak is going to get his big contract and that is almost certain.

No more than 25M annually. He should never be paid above the Derek Carr and Alex Smith range.

Around 40M. Reportedly, he turned down a 30M per year offer in August.
Dak will get paid more than Carr or Smith.

1. You either don't understand how NFL QB salaries work, or you simply don't like Dak.
He has earned the right to be paid as a Franchise QB and has outplayed the two who were drafted in his draft class and they are both making north of 30M.

2. That 40M request rumor was just a bad rumor and has been shot down as an incorrect rumor.

Truth is we have no clue what Dak has asked for because it's never been revealed by him nor the team.

The going rate for Franchise QB has been set at 32 to 35M. If he lands somewhere in the middle most of us should be happy, unless YOU just don't like him.

That 25M idea is asinine at best.

no Franchise QB will ever get a new contract for 25.
All will be probably mid 30's right now.
QB contracts always go up. never go down.
No matter which Franchise QB that is.

Here's a little contract knowledge for @Shatranj
When Carr signed his 2017 contract he became the highest paid NFL player. So now does Dak deserve a Carr type contract adjusted for inflation?

Here is what most that throw around the $25M number just don't seem to grasp and it gets frustrating to try and explain it. Dak is IMO better than Carr, but let's assume they are even since you brought up Carr. If Carr signed a contract today there is no way he would sign for $25M or even $30M. Do you understand that when Carr signed that contract it made him the highest paid player in the NFL? So assuming he deserves what Carr would get that would mean over $35M today. I'll say for the 100th time it's more about timing than comparing to similar players. Goff and Wentz are not top 5 QBs but they are top 5 paid QBs because it was their turn.

Raiders finalize five-year contract extension with Derek Carr

I have no problem with someone saying they don't want to sign Dak to a huge contract or think he is worth it but you just can't throw around some ridiculous number that isn't going to happen because you think it's fair and say offer him "this" or we should sign him for "this". My personal opinion is that negotiating with Dak (and Cooper and Jones and everyone else) right now would be stupid. You need to bring in a new coach and see if they are onboard with giving Dak $35M per year and Cooper and the others huge deals as well that will tie them to this team for years and prevent us from getting other players. Especially if you bring in a QB guru like Riley, you have to let him pick his QB. Hopefully that QB is Dak, and I think it is personally or we are in a lot of trouble because there are no QBs on the shelves at Walmart and it will likely take a few years or some luck to find a replacement. If we let Dak go we need to be willing to suffer for a few years. Maybe teams pass on Tua because of his injury and we trade up to get him or Herbert. Other than that I see few scenarios where we have a good QB immediately if we let Dak go :2cents:
