its kind of a joke that mussina made it before Schilling... Both had similar Careers, but schilling is one of the best Playoff pitchers of all time...

I guess that's what you get when you are a likable guy.... Mussina didn't belong, but he made it because he was likable...

I hate Hall of Fame voting. How do players seemingly become more worthy after being on the ballot for years? It’s a bullshit game. If their numbers were good enough to get in now, they were good enough before. It’s like they feel like they just need to let players wait a while first.

agreed... always wanted to take voting away all together and form a complex formula to calculate whether someone was a HOFer or not...

But McCovey only played when his bat was good enough to outplay his D. And he expended energy playing in the field.

A DH should be head and shoulders over a position player. He isn’t expending the energy in the field so the bat isn’t as heavy late in the game/season.

Call I understand your hatred of the DH, but the bat isn't as heavy late in the game has to be your worst argument yet.

IMO on the DH, the best of the best at DH deserve to be in there. 4 so far Martinez, the Big Hurt, Ortiz, and Palmeiro.

Palmeiro has to wait until The bigger name steroid guys get in though.

Way to go Edgar!!!! I know we have a fan of an NL team taking a steaming dump on his selection but Edgar is also a five time silver slugger winner as well two batting titles.

Steve Garvey > Willie McCovey

More MVP shares!

Not sure why you think Blyleven's a terrible choice....through about the same number of innings, his stats were very comparable to guys like Seaver and Gibson (who no one's questioning as HOFers).

12th all-time in pitching WAR and 13 top 10 finishes in WAR (led in 1973 and 1981). Threw the 14th most innings of all-time, finished in the top 10 eleven times (led in 1985 and 1986) and finished in the top 10 in ERA+ twelve times (led in 1973).

Too much is made of the %. A lot of guys should have been inducted unanimously. For some reason nobody was a dick about it this year. Maybe it will start a trend for the no-doubters but I wouldn't bet on it.

That 1995 season is pretty insane. Edgar hit .356/.479/.628 and had an OPS north of 1.200 in three months. He had two months with an OPS south of 1.000 (.991 in May and .892 in September/October). He batted .280/.380/.498 in two strike counts (league average was .188/.264/.285) and batted .265/.315/.410 in 0-2 counts (league average was .171/.204/.256).

I think Dickie Thon should be in. Just because Mike Torres can’t control his inside heat?

Actually, I think in their playing days, Schilling was considered far more approachable than Mussina.

It was only after he retired that Schilling went off the rails, where he still resides.

But after retirement schilling got himself in so much trouble... that he became a villain... Mussina, is seen as someone who did everything the right way, and more of ROLE MODEL type...

But schilling should have gotten in before Mussina if we were just basing things on play on the field...

How so?

Mussina had a 123 ERA + across 18 American League seasons

Schilling had a 127 ERA+ across 20 seasons, only 7 in the AL.

If you want to argue Schilling should be in too, I'm fine with that, but I don't agree that Schilling was a better pitcher overall. Splitting hairs, IMO.

Mussina was better in the playoffs than he gets credit for. He stats across the board improved in the playoffs.

You are correct that Schilling was way better in the playoffs though. Schilling should also be in the hall.

But the worst at keeping blood out of his socks. I have no proof of this, but I also think Mussina would be better at running a video game studio.

well, you showed that they at least were similar REGULAR season pitchers career wise...

Schilling may be the BEST playoff pitcher of all time...

and he has 3 WS rings with a WS MVP...
