Sanheim and Myers have been pretty good to me. They just aren’t activate enough offensively. Take the shackles off. Let them go for it.

I agree with you if you’re talking about the time in the bubble so far but not last night. They had a real bad night. They looked skittish playing the puck in their own zone and getting it out. They were also on the ice for two of the goals. The back breaker at the beginning of the third was because both of them couldn’t win a puck battle. They can and will be better but they have a big piece of ownership over last night’s outcome.

I’m new here so I may get killed for saying this but I’ve always maintained that G is a great hockey player but he’s not a great captain. I get that for the last few years the Flyers haven’t had the horses but ever since that Pittsburgh series where he flat out dominated in 2012 he has done a disappearing act. In fact, last night was eerily similar to that 2012 2nd round series with the Devils where the Devils came in and just dominated with their forecheck. The Flyers would go 90 second 2 minute segments where they couldn’t even get a chip out of the zone. Last night the Isles 1st period forecheck felt like that.

There are a few of us who feel the same way. You wont get killed from me about calling out the leadership skills of Gee. I think this is a perfect assessment of his game. However there are others on here who will jump off a bridge for him.

Bottom line is he is really hurting us right now and better wake his ass up!!!

I’m honest but forever optimistic. I looked at this run as the chance for him to rewrite the legacy he has as a Flyers captain. I thought he would step up but it’s clear now that he’s older his game doesn’t translate to the playoffs. He rarely makes the tough nosed hard play that often leads to playoff goals like the Isles 2nd goal last night where 2 guys go into the boards and work together to free a puck and get it out in front to an open guy. G game is available on random February nights without people selling out for playoff defense. Hopefully he finds it soon but it’s pretty clear who the guy is at this point.

On the Isles second goal last night we had both defenseman behind the net. That should never happen yet it happened more than once in the Montreal series and now again last night.

Note to all defenseman: If your partner is behind the net stay in front of the net.

Ive wasted thousands of posts arguing this same point. If Gee is not giving us offense he is basically a non factor in every other part of the game except faceoffs.

Im hoping he wakes up next game and we get back on the stanley cup track.

To me that one was more on Couturier for being the 3rd guy to try to go behind the net. Two dmen behind the net is bad enough, but Couturier abandoning Hart right at the net was a travesty. He stays home and that's barely even a scoring chance.

Uncharacteristically dreadful decision by #14.

This is true but Couts shouldn't be in front of our net all alone a defenseman should always be there. This has cost us three goals now.

No he shouldn't be in front of our net, but like Gee, he needs yo be held accountable for his disappearing act also. Dude has been a non factor.

My take on Couts is even though he isnt producing any offense he is doing a lot of other things out there where as if Gee isnt producing any offense he is killing us because thats all he can do.

Kevin Hayes you are playing great but it would really help us out if you could score on one of your break away chances.

On Giroux:

I'm the defender las was referring to :).

Flyers 100% need more from him right now. The issue I see in his game, and it's been there a while, is that he no longer goes to the net. He's a perimeter player, but a damn good one when he's clicking. The problem is, that style often struggles in the playoffs. Especially against defensively sound teams or good goaltenders. And the 'rust' from 4 months off hurts that even more. And his drop in skating speed as he ages, also hurts that.

However, I maintain that he's still at the very least, better than average defensively. Perimeter player offensively, and probably your most skilled player, and pretty good defensively. And obviously quite good in the faceoff dot (though I do think Giroux and Couturier both have a little bloat in their numbers because they take the majority of their draws on their strong sides, when they play together at least).

The captain stuff to me is just something for fans/talk show hosts to yell about if you don't like the playing style of the captain of the team. We have no idea what he says on the bench, in the locker room, or at practice. Countless players have talked about G's work ethic, the way he interacts with young guys, the leadership he shows off the ice. Hockey fans like captains who drop the gloves and hit people. The 'C' is window dressing to me. You need a room full of guys pulling the same direction. Some of them need to fire up the troops when they're sleepwalking. Some of them need to encourage guys when they're gripping their stick too tight and can't buy a goal. Some of them need to skate a million miles an hour into someone and then fight whoever comes after them. And some of them need to step up and carry the team offensively when they need it. Hopefully you can find a single player to sew the 'C' on that does all of that, but who really fits that bill? Ovechkin? It's a team game. I don't think giving the C to someone else will make an ounce of difference.
