How do you feel about the matchup vs the Isles?

Honestly I think it’ll be pretty similar to this series. Trotz won’t let them play weak defense. And they’re a tough team. I think it’s pretty much guaranteed the Flyers will get outhit.

But the Flyers are significantly more talented. If the top guys can get the offense going, and they play tight like they did in the 3rd tonight, I don’t think they’ll have a problem.

Hayes is going now. Jake is going now. TK is right there. Coots was right there in games 4 and 5.

I think they’ll get it going and give Hart and the D a little more goal support. I also think it will be a big deal to a lot of the inexperienced guys to have the first playoff series win under their belts. Now they know what it takes to finish a series.

I also think the Isles are a little more traditional lineup. Coots will go head to head with Barzal and after that the Flyers should have a significant advantage the rest of way through the lineup.

Meltzer made a good point on twitter. Despite their record, Montreal was the #2 possession team this year.

They just struggled to do anything with all that possession.

The Flyers should have the puck significantly more against the Isles and I think they’ll look significantly better as a result.

Don’t forget, 10 days ago the Flyers had just rolled over the Pens, Bruins, Caps, and Lightning. Different time, different stakes, but those are very talented teams that the Flyers more than kept up with.

Habs are just a tricky matchup because of how much possession they get. And Price of course.

I think this will be a tougher battle for our boys. Like I said before, our ST need to step up if we have any chance to move on. Giroux has not been doing well. Probably wishful thinking on my part, but at some point JvR should show up, no?

Didn't realize that. I was impressed with Suzuki. Never really heard about him until the Pens series.

Guroux has 4 assists in this series. So at least there’s that. But he needs to score a damn goal.

Obviously have defended JvR a lot over the years, but he doesn’t even look close to breaking out. With NAK hurt, I’d still play him because I don’t think Bunnaman brings a lot and he seems to be the next guy up. But if NAK is healthy, I’m dressing him over JvR for sure.

Also, the Flyers don’t hit a lot. But they’re not a small/soft team. They have quite a few big, powerful guys. Jake, Hayes, Coots, Thompson, Grant. Laughton, Pitlick, and Raffl are strong on the boards. As a team they just use it to shield the puck and win board battles (most of the time) rather than hitting people.

Everyone get off the ledge. I'll take not having to play another game against Price, Weber, Chiarot, Petry and a very small, fast, pesky group of young forwards that are riding high with confidence and inspiration.

We will grow and improve from this series win too, so we'll see what happens. No team right now is what they were throughout the regular season, so we don't really know what to expect.

I thought Giroux was scoreless? I was out of town on Wednesday when the lost. Giroux needs to shoot and not worry about the perfect pass. He has a great shot.

Look at it this way. I think we will present much more of a challenge to the Islanders than the Capitals did. It will be one hell of a grind, but that's what playoff hockey is if you want to win the Cup.

This is a great challenge but also opportunity for our younger players to gain confidence and learn how to get the job done in the heat of the Nhl playoffs.

I agree. The Caps showed no effort in that series imo. Their window has passed. I like our goaltending much better than the Isles. Goals may be tough to come by in Trotz's system.

gahh! Wednesday is at 3pm. Come on NHL! Just have them alternate days so we don’t have to do this afternoon during the work week crap.

I’m scheduled to work (I’m a test prep tutor and teacher) for all three of the games. FML
