Halep was knocked out in Rd.1 today. The 1 seed on the women's side of things is gone.

Halep had nothing left physically. Her style of play leads to her never winning the US open because it is at the end of the season. Too many matches between French and USO. Kanepi is pretty good on hardcourts so you aint beating her with your "B" game.

1st round was more round than I thought. There's so much action on the outer courts that nobody really care all that much about the 3 stadium courts.

I had reserved seats for grandstand and I only went there for one match which was the Tiafoe match.

Otherwise, I was just walking around the grounds and watching matches on the outer courts

Djokovic asked for a trash can during a break in the second set -- in case he became ill -- and was provided with several towels with ice for him to cool down. He revealed after the match that during the break between the third and fourth sets, the two competitors stripped down and took ice baths side by side in the locker room before resuming the match.

"It was funny," Djokovic said. "Marton and I had the ice baths, one next to the other. So we were in the two ice baths, we were naked in the ice baths, and it was quite a wonderful feeling, you know. Battling with a guy for 2½ hours and then you get into the locker room and you haven't finished the match and you're naked in the ice baths. It was quite a magnificent feeling, I must say."

Thats the great part. And it is pretty relaxed still. More like going to a baseball game. You also get to see stars of the future. I remember seeing Elena Dementieva before anyone knew who she was.

Do you remember who she played against? What year was this?

Stan trying to eliminate Dimitrov for the 2nd straight time in the first round of a GS.

Up a set and double break

How many times has that happened before? That 2 people met in the 1st round of consecutive majors, and there was the same winner both times?

How did Tiafoe look in person?

I believe it was 2000 against Tara Snyder who was actually supposed to be the up and comer at that time but instead it launched Elena's career after that.

Good post. I just checked and Dementieva got to the SFs in that tourney.

Pretty cool to say you saw someone who ended up being a semi-finalist whom barely anyone would have suspected, before the tourney started.

That was a good matchup for a sidecourt in round 1. I usually like to go round 2. Just as many side courts but better matchups.

Yeah it was totally my fault and I don't think I could have refunded it since I got it through stubhub. For whatever reason I though the 28th was Wednesday. I was trying to go for the 2nd round since I couldn't go Friday.

Next year I will probably go in the 2nd round.

The only difference with round 1 and round 2 outside of better matchups is there are some double matches being played

I must say I like the reserved seating for Armstong or Grandstand slightly better than the GA ticket. Can still do the same thing you do with GA ticket but you get a reserved seat (and a great at that) in whichever stadium you buy the ticket for. Also is basically the same price as a GA ticket.

This really helps if there is a great match on the court you have reserved tickets to as you won't wait on those long lines (at times) hoping a seat becomes available.

I will probably do that the next time I go too.
