meh, nothing mattered until she went down 4-3 in the second set. then everything bothered serena, and she melted down.

serena was just getting outplayed and out served. she doesn't take losing well.
When you think you are a better player ( or have a delusion that you are ) you always think you can come back from behind in a match until you get to the edge of the cliff and you know that you can not prevent the free fall. Serena reached that cliff and when she knew that she couldn’t possibly come back she started her meltdown.

It (her meltdown) was a deliberate act of unsportsmanlike behavior fully knowing that it could definitely escalate and end the match quickly and in an ugly fashion and ruin her opponent’s triumph.

This is disgusting from any player and especially mind boggling from someone who has won so many slams.

I'll give Osaka credit for playing some of the best women's tennis I've seen in a long time. Serena's first serve wasn't doing her any favors

Her first serve percentage was 38% or something in the first set and I think she was intimidated by Osaka and felt pressure on the serve. Osaka said she wanted Serena as oppon by in the final and this hot inside Serena’s Head. I think Osaka has beaten her before.

The “fight for women” is a sham. It’s sesationalization of the media to cover up her ugly act. She can barely fight for herself when losing. Clijsters, Stosur and this one come to mind.

...henin

lol, yes, can't be intimidated, but there have been a lot of players with better ground games, but gotta get the serve back first.

i was pissed when henin retired at #1. she had just been serena in 3 slams in one year.

Her feet were totally messed up at that point. She had no choice. That was sad to see though.

I like never watch tennis and you can say that every coach does it, but there’s no way you can claim that he was just giving her thumbs up. Literally no one gives thumbs up that way.

And if she didn’t see it how did she know he was just giving her thumbs up? Or was that supposed to be after some one told her what he did?

Well what I don't understand is how everybody says she couldn't see it when she herself said he was giving her the thumbs up. So yes, she obviously saw it. The meltdown is what cost her. I don't think coaching like that is such a big deal. Just don't enforce it unless it gets really blatant where they're having a full on conversation using hand signals with their box.

henin's feet? she was year end #1, and had dominated serena that year. the excuse she gave was she wanted to spend time with her family, who she had been estranged from.

Henin is one player who knew how to beat her by employing the “dirty tactics” in similar vein as Serena. The hand incident comes to mind. And as long as Serena is using intimidation and other unfair means to win it’s fine. Opponent does it once and all he’ll breaks loose.

I don't think it's going to happen but I really hope that JdP can pull this off. He's been a class act his entire career and deserves one more moment. His game just doesn't stack up well against the Djoker's.

another one of serena's infamous tantrums.

henin could handle serena's serve, was speedy, and had a great all court game.

it's a shame there hasn't been many henin clones coming up in the juniors, in the women's game.

connors was just putting on a show and stopped before the 3rd violation. at least his rant was somewhat coherent.

His rant said “ you can’t see the ball” and “go home”. Serena said “ you are a liar and a thief”. Personal slander and character defamation that she can and should be sued for.

None of these “bad boy” past greats deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Federer or Sampras.

connor had the good sense to move on at some point. serena was crying about a warning she got 6 games earlier.

She also threatened him professionally by saying he will never work another match the rest of his life.

I don’t know tennis, nor do I know how refs/umps are chosen. But that sounds like a threat coming from the Uber-face of the sport to me.
