ehh....i dont know how you could be happy after being bad for 5 years- and at the end of the day end up with Kuzma, Ball, Ingram and Hart.
the salary cap mistakes, the trade mistakes, the free agency mistakes--- if the Lakers made just a few incremental better choices they could be lined up to have a monster 4 year stretch.
instead- say they trade away every asset they have practically for davis- they are left with little cap room, basically no picks, a 35 year old lebron next year, and AD-
AD is obviously amazing, and LeBron is still great, but for a Lakers hater such as myself, after seeing that team be down for 5 years and all the high picks they got and all the time they hd to clear cap space etc...its pretty crazy to see them in the spot they are in right now.
I honestly can't tell which scenario you are saying would result in them being bad for 5 years. Or are you saying both?
In either scenario, there's still one max-contract worth of space to play with. Its not LeBron and AD or LeBron and the young core.... its LeBron, AD, 1 max spot OR LeBron, young core, 1 max spot.
And, no, its not a given that the Lakers will land a max guy... but that space can also get you 2 or 3 valuable pieces.
