He was playing some great basketball but so are a handful of other guys.

Harden is putting up historic numbers and completely turned the Rockets record around.
Steph is shooting ridiculous right now.
Giannis and Kawhi are leading their teams to the top of the East.
AD is playing ridiculous but his teams record just isn't good enough.

Agree.

I have LeBron 4th.

But, what @trojanfan12 said is true.

If he gets the Lakers top 4, it would take the Rockets finishing higher for me to bet against
LeBron

Yeah, if the Lakers recover and finish with at least the 4 seed, Lebron will have a very strong case, but I doubt he wins it.

If they don't get to at least a 4 seed, he's definitely not winning it. He'll still be in the discussion, he always is, but he won't win it.

The Freak is the shinny new toy.

Kawhi winning the MVP could help sway him into staying.

The Dubs going on a Historic run the rest of the Season gets Curry another long look.

Everyone of those players have a compelling case.

But, if LeBron gets the Lakers top 4, the only guy that can take it from him is Harden.

If he gets Houston top 4, without having Capela, Gordon and Paul for long stretches, he deserves it.

you are not going to win MVP in a year you miss 12-15 games.

That's what Travis Schlenk hopes. And truthfully it better work out for him because he traded back to get Trae, when he could have had Luka. That might be a move that haunts him.
It won't be as bad as passing on Steph, twice, to draft Rubio and Flynn.

But, it will be a fireable offence.

Playing 85% of the games is more than enough to be considered for MVP

I think you gotta take James out of the mvp conversation. As much as I am a fan of his. I don’t think a player that’s been injured and has missed as much time as he has should be taken out of consideration. Anyway I think harden is walking away with it easily this year

so if LeBron misses the next 2 games what does that bring his total missed up to? 13?

Say he misses 2 more games for rest/maintanance/2nd night of back to backs etc.....

thats 15 games....

that is almost 20% of the season.

No way you win an award when you miss 1 out of every 5 games.

Walton played 58 games, the Blazers won 50 of them. Without him, they only won 8 more games and finished 58-24.

A guy can still get MVP if he played 67-70 games IMO.

Also Lakers are not going to rest Lebron just for fun in the midst of a playoffs race at this point of the season.

Nash missed 7 and won.

Walton played 58 and won.

So, maybe.

Well that will never happen again.

I think Lebron still has a shot but it isn't very likely at all considering the way Giannis, Harden, Steph, etc. are playing. I just don't see it if he misses 15 games. But if he did something amazing and the Lakers got on fire, got a top 4 seed with Lebron balling out...it is possible. Not very likely though.

Whoops thought you meant missed 58 games LOL. 24 games is a lot though, I would be very surprised if that happened again. 12-15 isn't that much though...definitely possible for sure. It's just right now Harden is on a tear.

Yeah, that's all fine and dandy.

He shouldn't win if he isn't deserving because of his play.

But, he isn't automatically disqualified because he missed some games.

There's already recent precedents to show that's not a barrier.

Remember when everyone was questioning the Lakers off-season signings, wondering why they didn't get guys that could shoot.

Kind of funny that the only 3 Lakers shooting above 35% from 3 are all free agents. LeBron, Rondo, and Lance.

The bigger issue is the hold-over players. Hart, Kuzma, and Ingram have all regressed from near-40% 3-pt shooters to more like 30%. Yikes.

So, looks like the Dallas situation is about Carlise vs. Smith and Smith being a tad bit salty about Luka's ascension.

But, I'm glad to know he's not being a locker room cancer.

I'm not sure how reputable these sights are.

But, the links were posted on Hoopshype.

'A Boiling Pot': Dennis Smith trade talk latest live at Mavs HQ

Source: It would be surprising if Mavericks didn't strike a deal for Dennis Smith Jr. at this point

I regard Carlisle as a top-3 coach in this league... but between this and the Rondo situation, there are signs that the guy is very stubborn and might have trouble letting go of the old-school coaching attitudes.
