Taken all together, I didn't take @thunderc 's posts like that... I took him more to be saying that the past is in the past and either lingering on it or (going even further) trying to rectify history in the present wasn't a good goal. But he can speak for himself.... it was stated that people who weren't alive when those atrocities happened should move on because those demographics are in a better place BECAUSE they happened.
Um....no.
You don't use it as a crutch or weapon.
But, you don't have to stop talking about it because it makes people feel uncomfortable.
Speaking for myself, I don't mind talking about these matters... and I certainly wouldn't advocate folks stop talking about them because they might make others uncomfortable.
For me, it's not about the feelings of others. It's about what goes on inside the individual... holding resentments doesn't do a person any good in my experience.
