I saw the Rangers are the frontrunners to sign Julio Pablo Martinez.

I remember Ceej who was worthless in the playoffs, Ogando who tired out but was great early, Colby was good although not great statistically That leave your fav Dutch and Harrison. Feliz though was good. So cumulative numbers aside. Nope we needed more but still almost had it. Sometimes the magic takes you over the edge. The best teams don't always win

No YU but the trade for Hamels was an eye for that tandem in the playoffs. We still had Colby and Perez and a serviceable Guillardo.

We had eyes an upgrade for the year but the unfortunate Tommy John. We slugged ourself into contention IMO

Trying to get two Aces for the window did not work out so here we are wishing we had some guys back and the farm thin at the upper levels
If you are going to favor what the pitchers did in the postseason then realize Derek pitched the best postseason game ever in our history and Colby pitched great himself that postseason.

Feliz was in the pen in 2011 and did great.

You know Ogando pitched very well overall.

The rotation in 2011 was definitely the better of the two. That can be seen by looking at the numbers overall for those two seasons and if you look at the postseason it would be difficult to explain not picking that WS bound team's rotation.

I thought the manager filled out the lineup
When JD acquires someone for a particular position Banny is going to play that guy. That is usually how it works.

DeShields' defense has improved. According to The Fielding Bible, DeShields has gone from a minus-11 for runs saved in center to a plus-1 in 2016 and a plus-8 last season.

The results got them to the WS where we needed a shutdown guy. So by talent ok but lesser talent can have better games. Original point. There are no shoe ins for WA caliber teams and that time wa what perplexed thought was the Rangers move to get Hamels. Obviously cost a lot of talent and did not work out but if we did did not go for it sure there would be a lot of moaning.

So think what you want and BTW prospects are no sure thing. I.e. Profar

CJ pitched better in 2011 than Hamels did the year we acquired him. The 2011 Colby was much better than the 2015 Colby. Harrison was better than Gallardo. Derek was a better pitcher in 2011 than Nick was in 2015 and Ogando was much better in 2011 than Perez was in 2015. Those facts are why I think the way I do.

You mention moaning from the fans if JD had not went after Hamels. I think at times a GM has to ignore the moaning. That is why it takes a whole lot of guts to go into a rebuilding process. I am not sure how much moaning there would have been anyway because usually when someone is a fan of the GM they give the GM a pass on what the GM didn't do. They will excuse him by saying there wasn't a deal to be made. At the time JD acquired Hamels I don't think there would have been much complaining at all had he not acquired him. Even after he did acquire Hamels most thought it was more for 2016 as most thought the Rangers would not make the postseason in 2015 even with Hamels.

The transformation of Joey Gallo: How the Rangers slugger found his swing, his confidence, and himself

Young and powerful
Joey Gallo, who had 41 home runs last year, will play all of 2018 at age 24, giving him the chance to become only the ninth player in history to have multiple 40-home run seasons before the age of 25. The list:

Player Team Seasons Years
Alex Rodriguez Seattle 3 1998-2000
Eddie Mathews Milwaukee (NL) 3 1953-55
Albert Pujols St. Louis 2 2003-04
Willie Mays NY Giants 2 1954-55
Ken Griffey Jr. Seattle 2 1993-94
Juan Gonzalez Rangers 2 1992-93
Troy Glaus LA Angels 2 2000-01
Johnny Bench Cincinnati 2 1970, '72

I’m not seeing it. Not seeing the improvement necessary from a short or long term perspective.

I think this team is going to be bad the next few years and they need to focus on the farm.

We see from a distance. There is currently no movement in all of MLB
All quiet on the Western front

then we need to unload Hamels, Choo, Beltre, Andrus(because he will opt out after 2018) and Odor, then bring up Mendez, Guzman, Profar, Tejada, Calhoun and Tocci and start the rebuild now. we won't do anything in 2018 and 2019 but start it now. that way we learn if these kids can develop at the MLB level.

3B Gallo
LF Calhoun
CF DeShields
RF Mazara

Looks like JD stated today he is big on DeShileds in CF. I can see how experience can help his routes but arm strength is hard to improve despit those who espouse Trout improving. DeShields does have edit closing speed though

There is no need to do a desperation fire sale

1. No one is buying
2. Battering means getting better value than what you sell. Especially true in Odor case

Let see how into pan out come midseason

DDJ may have a weak arm and we would like a stronger one. However, a weak arm's liability does not compare to the positive offense he gives this team. Base running and OBP has been justifiable to play CF.Imho.
