Well...this offseason was basically the Rangers keeping their powder dry and waiting and hoping for bigger things down the road. Next two seasons are going to be pretty ugly as far as results on the field. Three teams got a lot better in the AL West. Texas is not one of them. It'll be Oakland vs Texas in a race to the bottom for a couple seasons.

74-88. And that's probably being generous.

Going to be a long rebuild. Hamels and Beltre will be traded away. Choo and Fielder will be off the books pretty soon. Odor will be traded or DFA'd sooner than you think.

But by the time the new park opens things should be looking up for the Rangers.

We'll be a playoff contender in 2021. With a lot of new faces. And a new manager.
you honestly believe that this team will compete in 2021? 2023 or 2024 or 2025 maybe

While you’re at it, can I get the winning lottery numbers for next week?

Amazing to me how the most ignorant are often the most vocal

really? he has a plan?
Of course he has a plan. That has never been a question. Quetioning the plan is one thing; questioning the existence of the plan is another thing entirely.

Captain Optimism rears his ugly head yet again.
sorry that you don't believe i should have an opinion( i always respect your's) but nothing i'm seeing gives me any reason to believe tat we have had a plan for the last 3 or 4 years so why should i feel different about this year or the next couple? you are allowed your opinion i am allowed mine. we have done nothing that gives me any confidence this off-season. are we rebuilding or is JD only going thru the motion of putting a 25-man roster on the field with no concern for what happens? if we're rebuilding then i would have given Adrian permission to find a competitive team that wanted him and i would have looked hard and long for someone to take Hamels even if it meant eating half of his 2018 salary. then bring up players from the minors to get the experience. but we're not rebuilding so we must be planning to compete for something but Moore, Minor and Fister don't do anything for me and next off-season we will have between 3 and 4 holes to refill in our starting rotation, a hole in outfield to fill, questions about 1st, 3rd and catching and holes in the bullpen. we could have address at least one of those on a long term basis but instead let's retain status quo

It won't take a whole lot to return to being a playoff contender.
only at least 4 starters in the rotation, questions answered about the outfield, 1st base, 2nd base, 3rd base, will Elvis stay or opt out and catching. it isn't a lot to some

Possibly

(still) Prospects expected to make their ML debut between now and 2021; in addition to guys already on the regular roster & rotation (Mazara, Gallo, Deshields, Odor, Profar)

2017 (debuted last year but still qualifies as a rookie)
W. Calhoun (COF)
Y. Mendez (LHSP)
2018
R. Guzman (1B)
J. Jurado (RHSP)
B. Martin (LHSP/RP)
2019
Y. Perez (1B/COF)
J. Palumbo (LHSP/RP)
2020
L. Tavares (OF)
C. Ragans (LHSP)
2021
B. Thompson (OF)
H. Crouse (RHSP)
C. Seise (IF)

That's literally everyone in our top 12 (actually the same could be said for everyone in our top 30) expected to debut between now and 2021, so yeah its possible

Thompson, Crouse, Seise and David Garia (a catcher) are the only ones projected for 2021

Starting pitching and catcher are the only one I see being an issue, I think internally we can sort out the 3, 4 & 5 spots, maybe a 2, I don't see any #1 in the works though

from saddles list above i see maybe 2 starters that might be a #4 or #5 (at a stretch the #4 might be #3) and the rest are at A level and their projected arrival is just that a projected time anything can happen between now and 2020/2021. Calhoun and Mazara will block Perez at COF positions and Guzman will block him at 1st. and like you said there is no #1 on the list and maybe not even a #2.

and it usually takes players a year or 2 at the MLB level before they start producing which is why i put the Rangers as a competitive team at 2023 at the earliest

You are mistaking playoff contention for WS contending. They aren't far from the first because of the shape of the league and the present watered down playoff format. They are a long ways from the second. What was mentioned above was playoff contenders.

It is a little difficult to project which prospects will be here in the future without being assured JD will not trade them away chasing after a playoff spot. I made the same kind of projection a few years back and it looked like a great plan had the players worked out. Had the plan not got hijacked to satisfy an appetite of fool's gold it would have been a very good plan because most of those players are well on their way to working out.

We shall see if a lesson was learned or not.

if you aren't in it for the whole shooting match then you're blowing smoke. suddenly we are suppose to be satisfied with hanging around ?

Some fans are satisfied with hanging around and some aren't.

By the way, you are definitely entitled to your opinion. I just think sometimes your sarcasm and bitterness about our situation rubs some folks the wrong way. I understand your frustration though. I may disagree with you sometimes, but you are entitled to a differing opinion.

Well, you don't have to get snippy, but, be that s it may, I have stated what I think their plan is several times.
until we recognize that the path to playoff competition is with a combination of good free agent signings and internal prospects filling the 25-man roster we are screwed. if we wait for all our prospects to develop before we do anything then we will always be on the fringe nothing but a team that troops onto the field every year for 162 games and then packs their bags after the last game and goes home until the next season.
