Not holding my breath for compensation for Romo. The way I see it, Houston looks to be the only squad that may feel compelled to send us something other than a thank you card. Everyone else appears willing to wait us out.
If the FO wishes to grab a vet corner to cover bases, I think they will wait this thing out and end up signing Carr back at a low price, low guaranteed money - like a one year deal with an option for a second year.
So we wait. What's the hurry? We can trade him in August.

The only way we don't get an offer is if teams are not willing to pay him $14M in 2017 to be their QB. While I think he is worth that, I understand fully why a team would not do so. They would be trading/signing him knowing he may not even make it through his first hit in preseason. It would have to be a team with a backup plan in place

I think this is an area you can't sell Jerry short on. I think he's playing this pretty well. He let's it out there that Romo is gonna be released. Denver, Houston and Jacksonville get in line. NE says they are keeping Jimmy G. Now the Cowboys announce that are going to trade Romo. Denver and Houston fanbases start thinking Super Bowl, adding pressure to GM's. The Cowboys could turn around and cut Romo tomorrow, what does it hurt trying to leverage the situation?

Actually I was thinking if we leaked he was going to be released it was dumb and hurt his trade value because at least now teams think it's possible he is released and may try to wait us out.

I think they already had that figured. If we as fans had speculated that, I'm sure they had. I think fan base pressure is a key, and it doesn't have to be today. Let's say Jacksonville gives up their 2nd for him...and makes the playoffs with Romo having a great year...Houston and Denver, with those great defenses, miss the playoffs....those fanbases will go nuts

I tend to agree cause I'm not sure the market is just Houston or Denver. Houston has the pressure and saying they will not trade for Romo could very well bite them on the ass when it's all said and done.

Exactly. Say Jacksonville traded their 2nd for Romo, then won the Division over Houston, who goes 8-8 with a devastating defense. Wanna be Houston's GM or HC the next day

I'm not sure I'm following. i was saying if Dallas leaked he was going to be released it was dumb. I don't see anyway that can be helpful whatsoever. It's all about perception and seeing who blinks first.

I would love to see Romo go to a team like Jax and put them in the playoffs. I think it would prove that he is a top 10 QB and prove the other teams were dumb if they refused to give something up for him and go with mediocre at best options when it only costs them $14M. There is no way some of these other QBs out there can bring as much to a team for 2017 as Romo can IMO. More than one year, sure, that's a pipe dream perhaps with Romo, but keep him healthy for one year or just get him healthy at the end of the year and make a run at it and it could pay off huge...

Agree. No way there are only two possibilities. A lot of crappy QB play in this league right now.

Houston is up

The Texans dumped their biggest problem. They sent Brock Osweiler, a second-round pick in 2018 and a sixth-round pick this year to the Cleveland Browns for a fourth-round pick this year. Though that move was fairly brilliant, albeit costly (and, perhaps, the type of salary dump the NFL might want to outlaw in the future), the work isn’t done. It only makes sense if the Texans also land Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. Otherwise, they just gave up a second-round pick and didn’t gain a whole lot.

Yeah, I don't see Romo agreeing to a trade to play in NY or Jacksonville or a few of the other teams that aren't close to playoff caliber. Unfortunately, I think that's where this situation is. It's not all about doing what's best for the Cowboys, because if that were the case, he'd have been gone already. Its about the relationship Jerry and Romo have and wanting to do right by Tony first. Cowboys interests may come second or even third (behind the Romo family). Sorry, but I think this is 100% accurate to say that Romo will land where Tony & family wants to, and the Cowboys may not get anything in return if the destination team is uncooperative. Such is life and we need to move on.

No way. We may frame it that way or say it after the fact to justify why we didn't get a good return, but you think if Romo says I only want to go to Denver and a team like Houston offers a first round pick we say no and cut him? No chance.

Either way, it's kind of a moot point because teams know Romo has a year, maybe two left at best. So no team that isn't ready to win if they add a QB now is trading for him anyway. It just wouldn't be a smart move to trade for an aging fragile QB when your best chance to win is 3 years out. So I think the two worlds of what is best for Romo and who is likely to offer something for him come together. Or it's also possible no one wants to give him $14M and they all balk at trading for him and approach him when he is cut with something around half that plus incentives to increase it back to $14M (or higher). They can make some of it guaranteed to help sweeten it.

No-one is giving us first round compensation for Romo, nothing anywhere close. So keep that comment to yourself. Maybe share it with ROMOTOOWENS or Mrs. Romo?

Basically everything you added is a moot point. I don't think there is a magical team that has money to pay him 14 mil a year, a playoff caliber team, plus being a QB needy team, and also is dumb enough to give us a solid draft pick after-the-fact we said we'll release him. The closest thing to that is Houston which I said in my last post may be the most desperate and fit the bill. Very likely that everyone else will stand by and watch us release him. And Jerry being the Romo supporter he is will do that for Tony.

From ESPN: Some will be filled with players already on the roster such as safety Jeff Heath, the leading candidate to replace Church. Maliek Collins, a third-round pick last year, had five sacks and should start at defensive tackle, replacing McClain. La'el Collins, who is entering his third season, will replace Leary at left guard.

Jeff Heath??? Yikes LOL I am all for drafting rookies. Change in the secondary is needed.

I don't think anyone is giving a first round pick for Romo. I was making a point that Romo holds the cards. There aren't many teams out there anyone can just write off and say they aren't making the playoffs next yr. He isn't going to one of those teams though regardless of what is offered.

Bears Signing CB Prince Amukamara To One-Year, $7M Deal Fully Guaranteed
Nate Bouda 29 mins ago Bears, NFL Transactions 0 Comments

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media is reporting that the Bears are signing veteran CB Prince Amukamarato a contract on Friday.

  • Tom Pelissero reports that Amukamara’s contract is a one-year, $7 million deal that’s fully guaranteed.
Amukamara, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Giants back in 2011. After five years with the Giants, Amukamara signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the Giants.

Amukamara was testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent for the second time in as many seasons.

In 2016, Amukamara appeared in 14 games for the Jaguars and recorded 49 tackles, no interceptions and six pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 42 cornerback out of 112 qualifying players.

Redskins Signing WR Terrelle Pryor To One-Year, $8M Deal

Nate Bouda 6 mins ago NFL Transactions, Redskins 0 Comments

Adam Schefter is reporting that the Redskins are signing WR Terrelle Pryor to a one-year deal.

  • Pryor’s one-year contract is worth $8 million, according to reports.
Pryor, 27, was taken by the Raiders in the third round of the 2011 supplemental draft. He lasted a little over three years in Oakland before he was traded to the Seahawks for a seventh-round pick that ultimately became DB Jonathan Dowling.

Pryor briefly played for the Chiefs and Bengals before later being claimed off of waivers by the Browns. Cleveland elected to cut him loose to make room for RB Robert Turbin last year before bringing him back.

The Browns signed him to a one-year, $1.67 million restricted deal this last March.

In 2016, Pryor appeared in all 16 games and caught 77 passes for 1007 yards receiving and five total touchdowns for the Browns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 31 wide receiver out of 115 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.

I never said anyone would. The point is if what you are saying is true (that only what is good for Romo matters) then if someone offered us a first and Romo doesn't want to go there we would say no and release him. That's total BS.
