3 burning questions facing the Steelers in training camp

  1. Watt... IMO yes he'll be playing a lot this season. He won't be the starter, but he'll be a heavily used rotational player. His talent is too good to keep off the field and he's smart enough to stay ahead of the 'rookie curve'.
  2. Secondary... Hard to tell at this point. They've certainly provided enough insurance at the position to feel all warm & fuzzy. But all it takes is 1 injury, especially to either Burns or Cockrell, and we're in crisis mode. They don't have a clear backup on the outside as they only have 1 other CB with 'length' in Brian Allen. The rest are 5'10" & smaller. But not that height is a huge restriction on CBs. Smaller guys have had success outside, but its rare. The position is incredibly young & talented though so it will be interesting to watch these kids develop.
  3. Bryant... So far so good. He posted a picture of his first week after minicamp of him working out with VanHook Sports (2017 Offseason). Assuming he is keeping close to his workout regimen, and surrounding himself with a better group of friends, I think he'll be just fine. He's got a lot riding on this upcoming season. 1 year to prove himself to the team & the NFL that he's worthy of a future in the league. He stands to lose an immense amount of money should he falter yet again. Fingers crossed.

And waste a shit ton of talent!

Saturday BTSC Six-Pack of Steelers questions

1. More TDs... Gotta be AB. Not only does he have perfect chemistry with Ben, but Bryant taking away the double team will allow him to do even more damage. I'm going to guess that It starts off as Bryant having more for the 1st quarter of the season only because people are going to sleep on Martavis. But by season's end, AB will reign supreme like always.

2. Rookie impact... I've been waffling on this one for weeks now. At first glance I wanted to say Watt for obvious reasons. But the more I think about it the more I like JuJu's chances. His biggest case is that he doesn’t have a well-established vet in front of him. For as much as we fell in love with Eli Rogers, he's still not as established as everyone wants him to be. JuJu could easily overtake him if he learns quickly. And secondly, I think it’ll be easier for him to make an impact early and often. It has rarely been easy coming into the league as an edge rusher. Watt will spell Harrison, but I'm not all too sure how often that will be. He's being praised for his intelligence & work ethic, but he doesn't have a shot at the starting position so long as Harrison is healthy. I'd even go as far as to say that Sutton could have a bigger impact than Watt this season. Sutton has a shot at starting in the slot.

3. SB 40 vs. 43... I'm not sure there is any way you could pick 40 in this situation. XLIII (43) was one of the greatest SB's ever. Harrison's 100+yd INT & Holmes' game-winning catch are still very vivid in everyone's mind. That game was neck & neck the whole way. Still gives me goosebumps thinking about the way that game unfolded. XL (40) had its moments: Willie's SB record 75yd run, Randel El's trick play, & Seattle's big INT return. But all the controversy surrounding all those controversial calls made it a bullshit experience for many (Steelers fans included).

4. CB depth chart week 1... I'm goin with 6 here. Burns, Cockrell, Sutton, Golson, Gay, Allen. If they go with 5, then I think Gay or Golson are in a head to head battle for the last spot. I'd love for Golson to be that guy and prove to us what the coaches saw in him years ago at Ole Miss, but realistically I think Gay edges him out based on his vet experience. Sensabaugh has an outside chance but I haven't heard anything to get excited about with him. A lot of people will be quick to write off Allen, but his measurables are too good to be able to hide him on the PS. And they would have to be damn sure one of those smaller guys could play on the outside.

5. WR duos... Thomas & Sanders is always deadly, even with a mediocre QB they accomplished over 1k a piece. OBJ & Marshall or Evans & D-Jax could be deadly but we'll have to wait & see. Cooper & Crabtree was always fun to watch.

6. Tom Brady hate... Meh I don't really hate the man. I respect him for what he's accomplished as one of the greatest to ever play the game. But I admit that I don't like him at all for the kind of person he is. He's a whiny little bitch that doesn't have a shred of humility in his body. The playboy/glamour persona has always rubbed me the wrong way. I think all of the "hate" he gets is more derived from association to the Cheatriots organization & their fanbase of idiots. Sure Brady tampered with evidence which makes him guilty as f*ck in my eyes, but it was more dismissable than anything else the Patriots have done before. He's not the first player to drain footballs of their pressure to get a more desirable edge. Punters/kickers have been doing it for much longer. And the fact that game was well in hand by Blount's leg's rather than Brady's arm makes it a mute point.
