Affectionately known as Turnup, he and BksBaller used to come on this board and we had some momentous exchanges back when Kobe was still around and the Heat were winning championships.

Looks like the Lakers finally got their backcourt defensive stalwart in Caldwell-Pope. The dude does score some as well.

The Lakers signed the defensive ace they desperately needed in Caldwell-Pope

In a round-about way, we can thank the Celtics for him. Celtics needed to create cap space to sign Hayward, so they traded Bradley to the Pistons. Pistons decided to move forward with Bradley as their 2 guard and made KCP a UFA (was RFA), giving the Lakers a chance to sign him to a reasonable contract (he was pursuing a max contract from the Pistons).

Click baity story. He represents KCP. Of course they've talked. He also represents Shabazz Muhammad, who is still unsigned and the Lakers are a team with a little flexability.

I agree. Probably not much to it and as you point out, it's not like Lebron is his only client.

On the other hand, if Lebron ends up a Laker, maybe adding @gordontrue as a Lakers fan will ease the pain a little for @ChiefsLakers67 ?

Shabazz makes some sense, but the Lakers are already 3-4 deep at SF (BI, Kuzma 3 or 4, Deng 3 or 4, Brewer 2 or 3).

Was just reading about the numbers Russ Smith is putting up in China (and he put up 28/8 in the d-league last year). Why not give him a shot? Sure, he's basically a 6'1 combo guard, but his quickness and aggressiveness are attributes the Lakers don't really have on the roster.

Two roster spots left (one likely for Bryant), plus 1 more 2 way contract available.

See they signed Bryant for two years, one guaranteed, second year at team option.

I love it when people call Kobe a pussy.....immediately makes me think of this:

KENYON MARTIN

"People can say whatever they want about Kobe, but Kobe didn't take no shit from nobody. Kobe would fight you in a minute. He would. That's something I think a lot of fans didn't know. People think of Kobe for all that skillful basketball stuff, but not for the fact that, if you stepped up to him, he'd fight back. Or if you clubbed him or hit him, he'd make you pay.

That’s 'cause Mamba would literally take your head off to win the game, man. He'd fuck you up. There's a lot of trash talking on the court, but nobody ever said shit to Kobe."

Very few did and if they did, they'd pay a heavy price. One of the reasons Shaq finally backed down.

lol

Yeah, a lot of fans didn't know, but the players and fans who are die hard hoops junkies all knew that no one messed with Kobe.

The NBA is full of "fake tough guys" who would get in another guys face knowing that no one really wanted to fight. They also knew that if they were going to get in Kobe's face, they'd better be ready to actually fight because he was ready to.

Kobe may not look like much but that quote coming from Martin? Martin's straight out of central casting for a hood/tough guy.....
