We all know what happened doug. (At least in YOUR Pea-sized brain, you know). Brad Ausmus used himself as a relief pitcher in ALL three games and lost the series. I know it may have LOOKED like Chamberlain, Soria, and Coke on the mound....but it was really Brad Ausmus throwing those pitches. We all saw it doug. No question about it.

I doubt Gardenhire will make a great deal of difference to the on-field product over the next couple of years in Detroit. I don't think any manager has that much magic to be able to convert the collection of ballplayers Detroit will have into contenders in short order.
However, it isn't a bad thing to have a respected name as your manager while your team looks like crap most of the time. Gardenhire's reputation will buy the team (and him) some time while Castellanos botches flies in RF, Cabrera is in and out of the lineup, and an endless line of pitchers get hammered game after game.

Yeah, Verlander had a clunker game, but the Tigers also hit a whopping .159 in the series. I think that was second-worst all-time for a WS. The 2012 Tigers were shut out twice during the entire regular season, and then twice in a four-game series. It was pathetic.
