Toronto Maple Leafs have made it clear to NHL/NHLPA they would like to host 2016 World Cup of Hockey but still no official decision on that

I doubt this is true. I've been hearing that this event doesn't have enough cache for the Leafs and their fans.

I bet they make a serious bid on the first Universe Cup though. The bid will likely have repeated references to their central location as a reason why their bid should be successful.

Also, I wonder if certain players will play in it or not - I mean, the way the seasons are now, some players don't have much offseason time, wonder if they'll be amped up for that

Buffalo will have 2 additional rinks - one with a seating capacity of 5000 - plus a full service hotel attached to their arena by then.

Sounds like an opportunity to me. Could even see a joint Toronto-Hamilton-Buffalo option. That gives you at least 3 NHL-size arenas (I'm not sure if there's anything else around Toronto or not) to host the games, plus a multitude of adequate practice/training facilities, all within less than 2 hours.
