He is still so supremely talented that a up and rising player with a fearsome serve like Raonic still had to rely on Fed's lapse, and possibly getting hurt to aggravate the knee surgery that Fed had done to win.

Fact of the matter is that Fed is still up there with the younger guys on tour, it all is a matter of putting the exercises and drills and his body being able to sustain all the training and recover some so he still has the edge over 93 other players and can still muster up QF and SF appearances. I say let him play until he loses consecutive slams in the early rounds.

Even then, I want him to keep going, until he's ready to end it. Maybe 2 early losses will just be in between a pair of deep runs. ;)

That 5th set was one of the most painful FED matches in a long time. Just so many errors, and he could barely string together a run of points. (Until very late in the 5th).

It just didn't look like a clean match. And it felt worse because of his rising age.

If I compare that to the Cilic match, even if FED would have lost, it at least felt more straight forward or cleaner. JMO. I guess one stat that could highlight this was that FED had 0 double faults the entire Cilic match. So if FED lost a point, at least it was during a rally. Whereas in this Raonic match, he lost points on double faults. The latter is more frustrating for me.

Even though FED looked old and slow by the end of this match, I have to remember, that he also looked old and slow when Tsonga was coming back from down 2 sets in the 2011 Wimbledon. He couldn't even get a return back by the end. (Much like the last service game in the Raonic match today).

That 2011 Wimbledon also marked a span of 6 straight GS without FED winning, and 5 of 6 without a Finals appearance. Things didn't look good.

But, FED came back from that, to play in a few more Finals, and get some wins over great players (Murray, Wawrinka) or rising stars (Raonic in 2014; Cilic in 2016).

I'm still appreciative of the Cilic match, it was the kind of gutsy memorable performance that can still make the tournament enjoyable.

If he hadn't done that, it would have been an even bigger let down. Kind of like the 2015 AO, where he lost to Andrea Seppi, or the 2013 USO, where he lost to Tommy Robredo, or the 2013 Wimbledon, when he lost to Stakhovsky in the 2nd round.

Herbert/Mahut have quietly put together a pretty incredible stretch. If they don't blow this two set lead, they will be 28-2 in Majors and 1000s since last year's US Open, with two majors and three 1000s victories. Herbert especially is a ridiculous volleyer. When it's all said and done, he could wind up being one of the best dubs players of all-time.

That was a great Womens Finals.

About 5 total points combined over the latter stages of each set decided it.

Good to see Kerber play at a high level at another major this year. It suggests she can sustain her win at the AO from this year.

Hopefully she can play like this for 2 - 3 more years.

We haven't had the same 2 Finalists playing each other, at more than one major in a year, since Mauresmo and Henin met at the 2006 AO and Wimbledon.

Raonic broken easily. Murray didn't have to do much, just move him around.

Ladys final was the best one in a long time. Serena managed to still have something left after playing a lot of tennis in the last 2 weeks. Fed, unfortunately, did not. He was done by the end of the fourth set.

On hold so far in the 2nd, although Raonic faced a break point.

I didn't think he was "done" after the 4th set ended, but as they started playing the 1st game of the 5th set, yes, he looked he didn't have much energy left.

How would you compare it to the AO Finals? That was at a 3 setter, so it had that going for it.

Looking at the last few 3 setters in GS Finals:

* 2015 FO Finals, Serena vs. Safarova
* 2013 US Open Finals, Serena vs. Azarenka
* 2013 Australian Open Finals, Azarenka vs. Li.

I will say the best among these 3-setters was the 2013 AO. 29 games played.

The 2013 USO had 32 games played, but the last set was 6 - 1. And Azarenka just seemed to play from behind most of the match.

The 2015 FO had 30 games played, but also had a 6 - 3, and 6 - 2 set, so 2 sets that weren't extremely competitive.

Lol, I guess number of games played isn't always the best indicator, as I picked the one with the fewest games played, but set for set, was the most competitive, IMO.

Yes, 2 setters can be competitive too. As I thought this 2016 Wimbledon Finals was. I was just trying to see if we could have a quick discussion of what past GS Womens Finals also might have been good, and this was one way I tried to look at past results.

Murray has been reading the Raonic serve brilliantly all day. It seems to be just sheer luck that there has only been one break. Milos isn't getting anywhere near the number of free points that he usually gets.
