Stan cut down on some of his errors.

He still struggled his most of his service games during sets 2 - 4.

They weren't easy holds.

In both sets 2 and 3, he was up a break, lost it, and then broke again late.

He seemed to lose a lot of the points when he had an overhead, because Djokovic would get them back.

Whereas when Djokovic had overheads, he'd win those points.

I hope he sat down with the studio crew after the match, like Kerber did yesterday.

Even if it wasn't aired live, hopefully I can still find such a segment online.

I'll take Wawrinka.

He has to have not more than 2 more doublefaults than Djokovic, for the match. I think Wawrinka will double fault more (and most likely generally serve worse), and that will probably cost him.

If both players double fault a lot, even if Wawrinka only has 1 more, he will probably lose. He has to play a cleaner match.

If both players have high errors, I think it still favors Djokovic.

Wawrinka in 5.

Djokovic had 6 aces and 7 double faults.

Wawrinka had 9 aces and 3 double faults.

I didn't think Djokovic would have more double faults, and certainly not that many more.

Djokovic had 30 winners and 46 unforced errors. Wawrinka had 46 winners and 51 unforced errors.

Wawrinka also saved a ton of break points, as Djokovic was 3/17 on break points.

I'm glad all of those shanks in the 1st set by Wawrinka didn't continue.

Is this a real baby pic of Wawrinka on the right?

Nice. How many different days did you go to?

What's have been your favorite matches, or moments?

Did you run into any of the players?

I just went the one day but I stayed a little over 5 hours so we got to see plenty of matches. Sock beating Chilic in a packed Louis Armstrong was my favorite. Didn't run into any players.

Watching the #2 womens doubles team (Both named Chen) on a side court literally 8 feet from them was pretty cool too.

I think that's his kid.

He only has one child, a daughter, Alexia.

From wiki:

++++++++++

As of 2009, Wawrinka lived in Saint-Barthélemy, about 20 km (12 mi) north of Lausanne, with his wife Ilham Vuilloud, a Swiss television presenter and former fashion model.[44] They married on 15 December 2009. Vuilloud gave birth to the couple's first child, a girl named Alexia, on 12 February 2010. On 4 January 2011, Swiss media reported that Wawrinka separated from the family, less than one year after his daughter's birth.[45][46] The couple later reconciled,[47] but on 19 April 2015 Wawrinka posted a statement on his Facebook page announcing their divorce.[48][49] Wawrinka's wife suggested he had repeatedly cheated on her and lied,[50] and Wawrinka is currently dating the Croatian tennis player Donna Vekić.[51]

All 3 sporting events that I wanted to watch today started at 1 pm.

And all 3 ended how I wanted! Yay!

Congrats to Stan the Man!

The idiot calling the Cubs/Astros game just called Nole Djovak Nokovic, by the way.

What else did you want to watch?

The Men's Final will have timing issues no matter what. If it's on Monday, the network will be pressured to go to Monday Night Football, and will probably cut trophy ceremonies short.

If it's on Sunday, in addition to football games on at the same time, there's also Sunday Night Baseball. They were pressured to go to Sunday Night Baseball, and didn't show any post-match studio interviews like they did with Kerber on Saturday. I wouldn't be surprised if they cut the trophy ceremony short in some years and told people to "watch it on SportsCenter later". This was only a 3 hour 55 min match too. Imagine if it had gone 5 sets and was a 4+ hour match. They definitely would have cut things short, and not shown the trophy ceremony.

I'm thinking that even the Finals were moved 1 week earlier (which wouldn't happen because the gap between Wimbledon and the USO already lost 1 week in recent years), that the desire to show Sunday Night Baseball would still cause issues with how much they show during the post match.

It would be best if they moved either Sunday Night Baseball, or the Finals, to ESPN 2. I don't care which one. But at least this way, there wouldn't be the potential conflict. I looked to see what was on ESPN 2 after the match ended, and it was only the World Series Of Poker.

Yes, ESPN would lose some ratings by putting either the Finals or Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN 2, because not everyone gets ESPN 2. I'm not sure what regions get ESPN but not ESPN 2, but they must be some regions, because otherwise ESPN wouldn't treat ESPN 2 as its less desired channel. But by having both things on separate channels, at least fans can watch both events completely, whichever one they want. Maybe commercial sponsors pay less for ESPN 2 ads too, so there's probably that too.

I've been wondering for years, ever since his separation was revealed a few years ago, how much he still is a part of his daughter's life.

There's also these slightly vague but unflattering remarks by his ex-wife:

+++++++++++

"No, trips and tournaments are not the cause of our separation. Besides, other players, ranked higher than him, handle family life very well. His instability, desire to regain his freedom—at all levels—are the source. And I have to admit the repeated fibs and emotional betrayals eventually destroyed entirely the confidence I had in him."

Wawrinka won the most exciting point of the tiebreak.

That would be the only point he'd win in the tiebreak, as he loses the tiebreak 7 - 1.

I stopped posting live after the 1st set, because the repair men came, and I had to pause the match.

I resumed it on the DVR after they left.

Ok, I called the US Open asking about their size.

When going through the recorded greeting, I was getting nervous, because it didn't sound like their business hours would be open today.

The greeting said "IF it's our normal business hours, then please wait for the next attendant".

IF??? The greeting should tell you whether today is a business hour day, or if it's not.

I waited for about 2 mins, and someone answered the phone.

I asked for the size of the BJK NTC. They said they'd transfer me to the "Command Center" and that they might know.

I then asked the person at the Command Center. He said he would transfer me to Guest Services. I said "No, I was just transferred from there. Is there anyone you can ask, or anyone I can email, that might know?"

He then put me on hold.

A few minutes later, he came back and said 46.5 acres.

46.5 acres = 2,025,540 square feet.

So the size of Melbourne Park + Olympic Park is 2x the size. Interesting. Yes, it would be best if I could isolate just Melbourne Park, but that would be more difficult to find out. I'm just glad to have found some info.

From looking at a map, the BJK NTC does look spacious, so I can only imagine what Melbourne Park must feel like.

Wimbledon and the FO haven't returned my emails. I will have to keep trying. Since they're international, I can't call them. Or maybe I could if I was willing to pay an international phone call.

I also asked those places about the grounds pass question, so there's a few things they have to get back to me on.

Women's tennis is so boring
Not sure if you're being sarcastic.

I thought that was a good match.

Exciting 3rd set, Kerber had to fight back being down a break. Then she was steadier at the end, while Pliskova made some errors. But her breaking Pliskova late in the set wasn't a given, I was thinking 3rd set tiebreaker.

Bump, can you clarify what you meant about the Womens Finals?

I posted about this in the Wimbledon thread, and it's still true in the US Open broadcast.

ESPN shits on the FO, by never showing video clips of it. They'll only show still images.

They do the same thing for the Olympics. They won't show clips, only still images. So when they show Venus winning her mixed silver medal, they're only showing an image of her.

What, does ESPN not want to pay royalties to NBC (who broadcasted the FO and the Olympics)?

There was another humorous moment about this during a studio segment.

LZ Granderson was recalling his favorite moment from the Wawrinka-Djokovic FO Finals in 2015. He said the shot Wawrinka hit around the net post from that match was one of his favorite shots ever.

ESPN then show an image of Wawrinka from that match (not even an image of that shot that was being discussed).

They then cut back to the studio. A dejected LZ Granderson said "Oh, I thought we were going to show a highlight clip of that shot."

LOL. :(

And it's not that ESPN won't show highlights from other networks. They'll show Tennis Channel highlights, like when they show a clip of a match from Tokyo or Rome. They just aren't doing NBC matches.

And because NBC broadcasted 2 of the biggest tourneys of the tennis season, in the French Open and the Olympics, it's annoying to only see still images, and not clips.

Thoughts on how FO clips aren't shown, but only still images?
