washouts are rare thanks to the surface, but they are building a roof over chatrier

the roofs at the us open were the ones i was most looking forward to since washouts there are many times more likely

Did Tennis Channel show the Sock match?

Or did NBC?

Maybe Tennis Channel never showed it because NBC picked that as their match to have exclusive rights on for the day.

TTC showed a little of it, I think.

I watch on DirecTV channels 701-706, though, so I'm not sure.

Tennis Channel showed parts of it but were too focus on a straight forward match for Kei

Maybe complete washouts, but the roof will also limit rain delays, which are also annoying.

I'm surprised there's not a wiki or website of some sort which tracks how many delayed matches per major, and how many washouts.

I'd be interested in what year and what major there were the most washouts, and what had the most delayed matches due to rain.

Yeah I would guess Wimbledon as well. Speaking of Wimbledon, I just remembered to put in for the 2nd Monday off

One thing I like about the US Open roof plans is that unlike the Aussie Open where they closed the roof when it got really hot. Based on what I read, the US Open only plans on closing the roof due to rain

Since adding a retractable roof is a possibility, why not push them to have one? It's not like they have to build an entire new tennis center for it.

It just makes it easier to watch if there aren't 2-3 hour rain delays, and the uncertainty if whether I should stay at home and try to wait it out, or move onto something else. Yes I use a DVR too but it is also more fun to watch live when possible. And for other fans, knowing that a match will shortly resume after there's a roof, makes it easier to watch too.

Tennis is easier to follow now at Wimbledon and the AO because of the roof. When rain happened in the 90s (and Wimbledon was still on HBO too), I couldn't follow the early rounds as much.

Yep that's the plan. Unfortunately I usually miss most of the French and Wimby due to work. I get to see much more of the Aussie and US Open

It was a bit of a letdown that the 2012 FO Finals was split into multiple days, because of the rain.

Had it been able to be completed on the same day, it would have kept the excitement. Like the 2008 Wimbledon Finals.

The 2008 World Series Game 3 was split into 3 days, because of the rain. That's the worst that I can remember, for a championship round in a sporting event.

Just was thinking about this but days like this is when it is actually a good thing the French begins their tournament on Sunday rather instead of Monday like the other GS events. The wash out won't be a big deal since we have 2 more days left of 1st round play

Danger time for Murray.

2 points away from dropping 2nd set to Stepanek
