12/18 - Mets designate C Johnny Monell for assignment
12/22 - Cardinals sign P Mike Leake to five year contract
12/23 - Mets assign Monell outright to Las Vegas. Sign OF Alejandro de Aza to one year contract.

Didn't realize Brad Penny was still playing. I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm being serious.

I am surprised he never caught on with an AL club. Dudes bat is for real, but his glove is laughably bad.

Not surprisingly, though, he started for the Padres for a good half season...

There were two surprises to me. I was kind of shocked that Dan Runzler is still kicking around. Would have thought he'd have given up by now. On the other hand, pitching in the minors is probably better than selling Lady Kenmores.

And then there was Schierholtz. I know he's not the 2nd coming of Willie Mays. But I would've thought he'd have caught on with someone, somewhere, as a 5th outfielder. Yet, he's still scuffling, trying to find a more or less permanent home.

Dan Runzler is a left handed reliever. Those guys can survive forever.

Nate Schierholtz played a partial season in Japan last year, posting a .250/.298/.435 in 232 at-bats with Hiroshima.

Yeah, I know Runzler's a lefty. But there's a time when even lefties have to admit, it ain't gonna happen. And get on with your life.

Nate was in Japan??? Damn, he HAS fallen off the map. Well, good luck to him with the Tiggers.

I saw that. No mention of the return. I would guess it is just cash.

The typical PTBNL or cash considerations return is what's reported.

Given AZ bullpen situation, he's got a pretty good shot at making the big club out of ST.

Welcome to the board. Best Giants board on the net.

As far as Runzler, Nate, et al, it goes to show how many good looking prospects just don't make it in Teh Show. That's a lesson to those who were counting on Parker or Mac to deliver this year. Prospects often fail. That's why I like the Span signing.

Jonathan Snachez, aka Durty, signed a minor league deal with the Reds with an invitation to Spring Training.

Such a maddening, yet mystical, pitcher in his Giants tenure. Last seen in MLB in 2013. He's been pitching in Puerto Rico the last 2 years.

Hope he can make it onto the Reds.
Seems like a good team to try to make.

Also, the Cubs signed P Jean Machi. Third former Giant signed to a minor league deal over there (over Perez and Guzman).
IF Charlie Culberson signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers.
P David Huff signed a minor league deal with the Royals.
C Chris Stewart signed a 2 year deal with the Pirates.
